User selects focus point using multi selector
(_ 58); camera focuses

on subject in selected focus point only. Use with stationary
subjects.
In AF-A andAF-Cfocus modes, user selects focus point manually
(_ 58),
but camera will focus based on information
from surrounding
focus
[-O.]Dynamic
points if subject briefly leaves selected point.
Use with erratically
area
moving
subjects. In AF-Sfocusmode,user selects focus point manually
(_ 58); camera focuses on subject in selected focus point only.
[m] Auto-area
Camera automatically
detects subject and selects focus point.
In AF-AandAF-C focusmodes,user selects focus point using mu Iti selector
(_ 58). If subject
moves after camera has focused, camera uses 3D-
tracking
to select new focus point and keep focus locked on original
[31)] 3D-tracking
subject while shutter-release
button
is pressed halfway.
If subject
(11 points)
leaves viewfinder,
remove your finger from shutter-release
button
and recompose photograph
with subject in selected focus point.
In
AF-Sfocusmode, user selects focus point manually

Mode
AF-area mode can also be selected from the Custom Settings
menu
(_ 155). AF-area mode selections
made in shooting
modes other
than P,S,A, or M are reset when another shooting
mode is selected.

3D-tracking
(11 Points)
When the shutter-release
button
is pressed halfway, the colors in the area surrounding
the
focus point are stored in the camera. Consequently
3D-tracking
may not produce
the
desired results with subjects that are the same color as the background.
