OiL FiLL CAP & DIPSTICK
Engineoil levelcan be checkedand oil addedthroughtheoil fill. See
Figure10.
NOTE:This unitwas shipped%THOUT oil inthe engine.Oil is
included in the plasticbag packedwith the manualin with the unit. Add
the oil as directedinthe Assemblysection.Checkthe oil levelbefore
eachoperationto ensureadequateoil isinthe engine.Forfurther
instructions, referto thesteps inthe Serviceand Maintenancesection
of this manual.
DEPTH REGULATOR
LEVER
This levercontrolsthe tillingdepthof the tines.Pull the leverbackand
slideit up or downto engagethe notchedheight.See Figure10.
HANDLEBAR
HEIGHT
ADJUSTMENT
Thehandlebarheightisadjustableto threedifferentsettings.In
general,adjustthe handlebarsso they are at waistlevelwhenthe tines
are 3-4" inthe ground.See Figure10.
REAR TIME SHIELD
The reartine shieldprotectsthe operatorfrom flyingdebriswhilealso
smoothingout freshlytilledsoil. See Figure10.
SiDE
SHIELD
Theside shieldisusedto maintainclearevenrows and maybe
adjustedto one of fivedifferentpositions.See Figure10.
TINES
Yourtiller'stines are a seriesof hoesarrangedon a revolvingpower-
drivenshaft.See Figure10.
WHEEL
DRIVE PiNS
Eachwheelisequippedwith a wheeldriveclick pin that securesthe
wheelto thewheel shaft.The wheelscanbe positionedineither a
WHEELDRIVEor a FREEWHEEL mode.See Figure10.
OiL DRAIN
Removingthe oil drain plug will drainthe oil fromthe engine.See
Figure10.
TO START ENGINE
1.
Attachsparkplug wireand rubberbootto spark plug.
2.
Fill tankto no morethan 1/2 inchbelowbottomof fillerneck to
providespacefor fuel expansion.
3.
Putthe wheelsin the WHEELDRIVEposition.
4.
Movethe Depth RegulatorLeverall the way downto the"trans-
port" position,so that the tinesclear theground.
5.
Releaseall of the controlson the tiller.
6.
Turnthe fuel shut-offvalveto the ON position.
7.
Movethe choke leveron the engineto CHOKE_÷ position.(A
warm enginemay notrequirechoking.)See Figure11.

ropeout untilyou feela drag.
10. Pullthe ropewith a rapid,continuous, f ull arm stroke.Keepa firm
grip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly.
11. Repeat,if necessary,untilengine starts.Whenengine starts,
movechoke controlgraduallytowardthe RUN_[ position.
12. If enginefalters, movechoke controlbacktowardthe CHOKEi:_
positionand repeatsteps5 though8.
13. ALWAYS keepthe throttlecontrolin theSTART/RUN ,_ position
whenoperatingthe tiller.
TO STOP ENGINE
1.
To stopthe wheelsand tines, releasethe ForwardClutchBail.
2.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto slow(turtle) _
position.Whenever
possible,graduallyreduceenginespeedbeforestoppingengine.
3.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto STOP_ii_ position.
4.
Turnthefuel shut-offvalveto the OFFposition.
5.
Disconnectspark plugwireand groundit against t heengineto
preventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended.
TO ENGAGE
DRIVE & TINES
1.
Forforwardmotionof the wheelsand powerto the tines pull the
ForwardClutchBail up againstthe handlebar.
NOTE:Inforwardmode,the tines will rotatein reverse.
2.
Walk slowlybehindthetiller allowingit to moveat its own pace
while keepinga securegrip on the handlebarwith yourelbows
flexed.
3.
Releasethe bail to stop the rotationof the wheelsand tines.
