The use of HP Virus Guard Real Time Protection on a file volume that contains an Oracle database is not
supported. The use of the Real Time Agent on an active database may cause data corruption to occur. It is
possible to perform a scheduled virus scan on file volumes. Performing a virus scan during periods of
heavy database traffic can cause excessive system performance degradation. Additionally, if a file volume
that is being protected by the Real Time Protection agent of Virus Guard is located in the same volume
group as file volumes containing nfs exports, there may be significant performance degradation. It is
always best, when possible, to ensure that any file volumes with SMB/CIFS shares being protected by
VirusPro Real Time Protection are
exports.
Currently, when new Windows (CIFS/SMB) shares are defined, or when a snapshot is shared through
CIFS/SMB all CIFS sessions will be lost. In the case of an Oracle database that is accessing its storage via
CIFS, the database engine will report an unexpected network error. It is always best to shutdown the
database before adding new Windows shares!!

Volume Group: VG1
LUN 1
This diagram depicts physical storage as a single
redundancy group – because this is a VA 7100.
One LUN is shown. LUNs aggregate the
storage in a single redundancy group into one or
more general "pools" of storage. Multiple LUNs
could be created.
One volume group is shown. Volume groups
combine one or more LUN storage pools into a
"volume" of storage that can be allocated by the
NAS 8000 operating system for use.
Two file volumes are shown. File volumes partition
the storage volumes into accessible storage (file
systems).
Seven directories are shown. These are also CIFS/
SMB shares that the clients can use to gain access
to the NAS 8000 storage.
