Mac Users
The CD or DVD volume will appear as an icon on the Desktop. Click on the icon to have access to the contents of the CD or
DVD.
IMPoRTaNT INFo: At the time of publication, if your Mac does not have a native, built-in DVD-ROM or Combo
(CDRW and DVD-ROM) Drive, Apple does not support DVD-Video playback over external, third-party DVD drives.

The following is a brief overview of some of the recording terminology to help you understand how to use your drive to write
discs.
IMPoRTaNT INFo: Please refer to your recording software's user guide for information on how to best use your
LaCie Slim DVD±RW drive in write mode.
ISO 9660, a standard published by the International Organization for Standardization, defines a file system for CD and
DVD-ROM media. It supports different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and systems that
follow the Unix specification, to ensure data exchange.
Mac users can choose to create Mac-only, ISO 9660 or Hybrid CD/DVD-ROMs (Mac & PC).
ISO 9660 is the standard for cross-platform use, but does not support custom features of the Mac file system such as long

file names or icon options.
Hybrid discs (Mac & PC) contain two partitions: one to be viewed by Mac users, one for Windows users. Toast 7 Tita-

nium allows you to have different content on each partition.
