Step 2—Installing the front PCI fan in the HP xw8600 Workstation CAUTION: To prevent overheating an HP xw8600 Workstation, a front PCI fan is required when installing the NVIDIA Quadro FX5800 graphics card. If the HP xw8600 Workstation includes dual high- performance graphics cards and lacks a front PCI fan, the BIOS detects an illegal cooling configuration error and reports that the front PCI fan is missing.

Attach the front fan to the card guide. Place the fan in the card guide with the fan label facing into the card guide and the fan protector screen facing outward. Place the fan wire through the slot in the card guide. Snap the fan into place in the card guide.
Step 3—Installing the graphics card NOTE: The FX5800 graphics card occupies two expansion slots on the system board. HP recommends placing the keyed components of the card in the primary graphics slot. To identify a PCI Express (PCIe)-x16 expansion slot, see the service label on the workstation access panel. Position the graphics card.
Step 4—Connecting the power Close the expansion slot retention clamp to secure the card in the slot Connect the 6-to-8 pin auxiliary power adapter cable, supplied with this kit, to the workstation auxiliary power supply , and then to the FX5800 card NOTE: No connection is made at point .
Step 6—Reassembling the workstation Reinstall the workstation card support, if applicable. Reinstall the side access panel. Reconnect power to the workstation and all external devices. Restore power to the workstation and all external devices.
