Symptom
The keyboard does not
work (no keys are
working).
The mouse does not
work.
The operating system
will not start.
An error code is
displayed before the
operating system starts.
The computer beeps
multiple times before the
operating system starts.

Error codes

The following table includes some of the error codes that might display when
you turn on the computer.
v Record any error codes that are displayed. If you call for service, you will be
asked for the error codes.
v If you get multiple error codes, always work in the order in which the error
codes are displayed.
v If the error code is not in the following table, more in-depth troubleshooting
is required.

Verify that:
v The computer and monitor are turned on and the
brightness and contrast controls are set correctly.
v The keyboard is securely connected to the keyboard
connector on the computer.
v No keys are stuck.
If you cannot correct the problem, have the computer
serviced.
Verify that:
v The computer and monitor are turned on and the
brightness and contrast are set correctly.
v The mouse is securely connected to the mouse connector
on the computer.
If you cannot correct the problem, have the computer
serviced.
Verify that:
v There is no diskette in the diskette drive.
v The boot sequence includes the boot device (the device
where the operating system resides). In most cases, the
operating system is on the hard disk. Start the BIOS Setup
Utility program and verify the boot sequence.
If you cannot correct the problem, have the computer
serviced.
