Before using your Philips CD-ReWriter, make
sure you have all the items listed on page 3. In
order to use your Philips CD-ReWriter, you will
need the following personal computer (PC) spec-
ifications and tools.
Computer Requirements
• An IBM/AT compatible computer with a 233
MHz or faster Pentium Processor and 32 Mb of
RAM
• A vacant IDE interface connector
• A vacant half-height bay
• Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT
4.0 or higher
• Sufficient free hard disk space (at least 12
Mb)
You will need about twice as much space on your
hard disk as that required by the data you wish to
write to CD. (For example: If the data you wish to
write to CD is 10 Mb, you will need 20 Mb free
space on your hard disk.)
• Remove any existing CD recording software
from your PC before installing the CD-ReWriter.

EFORE TARTING
Discs
You may use conventional CD-RW (74 minutes)
and CD-R (74 minutes) discs with your Philips
CD-ReWriter. Philips recommends you use only
Philips CD-RW (74 minutes) and CD-R (74 min-
utes) discs. For the best recordings, make sure
the discs are rated for use with 8x drives.
Read-only Discs
You can use discs which conform to the
Compact Disc Read Only Memory standard. If
you wish to use the audio functions, use discs
that have the logo that indicates the disc
conforms to the Compact Disc Digital Audio
standard.
Tools
• Cruciform screwdriver:
Use to remove the
cover of your computer
and to install your CD-
ReWriter.
• Long nose pliers: Use to
insert or remove the jumper
pin when setting the
MASTER/SLAVE settings
of your CD-ReWriter.
