Deploy the Virtual Appliance

You use the vSphere Client user interface to deploy the CapacityIQ appliance. VMware distributes the
appliance as a

Prerequisites
Use vSphere 4.1. If you use vSphere 4.0, perform this procedure only when you can deploy CapacityIQ

with thick disks instead of thin disks. For information about deploying CapacityIQ with thin disks in a
vSphere 4.0 environment, see
page 14.
You are in the vSphere Client and your assigned role and permissions allow you to import a virtual

appliance.
Procedure

Download and extract the CapacityIQ

In the vSphere Client that is connected to a vCenter Server system or an ESX host, select File > Deploy
OVF Template.

Locate the extracted
For information about how to complete the wizard, see the vSphere documentation. The network switch
that you select must have access to vCenter Server and the datastore must have enough capacity to deploy
the virtual appliance.
The virtual appliance appears in the vSphere Client inventory panel as a virtual machine.
