The gear shifter knob on top of shifter will not push in and when you shut off the vehicle the headlights stay on

The gear shifter knob on a 2004 GMC Envoy may not push in if the ignition is not in the correct position (RUN), or if there's an issue with the brake-shift interlock system. The headlights staying on after shutting off the vehicle could be due to the automatic headlamp system, which keeps the headlamps on until it is completely dark or until the system times out. Another possibility is that the headlamp switch is not in the OFF or AUTO position.
