the ProLiant 800 Server
The following instructions are provided as an overview for first-time
installation of your server. If you have any problems, contact your Authorized
Compaq Reseller.

Installation Sequence

The following sequence should be performed when installing your server for
the first time.
1. Select a site and unpack the server, keyboard, mouse, and monitor
(monitor not supplied).
2. Install any PCI expansion boards. Refer to Chapter 4, "Overview of
Installing Hardware Options." See the options kits for detailed instructions.
NOTE: ISA expansion boards are installed after System
Configuration utility has
been run.
3. Connect cables: keyboard, mouse, monitor, network, and power.
4. Install other options: additional memory, hard drives, expansion boards,
and external storage devices. See Chapter 4, "Overview of Installing
Hardware Options." See the options kits for detailed instructions. You will
need to run the System Configuration Utility after you install hardware
options, with the exception of additional memory and most PCI boards. Run
the Compaq System Configuration Utility, which is located on the
SmartStart and Support Software CD, during the SmartStart portion of the
installation sequence. Refer to the Server Setup and Management pack
shipped with your server.
5. Set switches: processor board switches, system board switches, and SCSI
ID settings, if changes are required. See Chapter 4, "Overview of Installing
Hardware Options."
