Frequencies below the cutoff frequency are unaffected by this filter. At the cutoff frequency, the
signal is attenuated 3 dB. There's a rolloff of 6 dB per octave above the cutoff frequency—that
is, the signal is attenuated 6 dB with each octave above the cutoff. The resonance—the amount
of cut or boost at the cutoff frequency—is fixed at -3dB. When the cutoff frequency is well
below the the lowest-frequency partials of a sound, lowering the cutoff further will not affect
the timbre of the sound, but will reduce its overall amplitude.
