SHIPPING INSPECTION
Always keep the unit upright; laying the unit on its side
or top may cause equipment damage. Shipping damage,
and subsequent investigation is the responsibility of
the carrier. Verify the model number, specifications,
electrical characteristics, and accessories are correct
prior to installation. The distributor or manufacturer will not
accept claims from dealers for transportation damage or
installation of incorrectly shipped units.
CODES & REGULATIONS
This product is designed and manufactured to comply
with national codes. Installation in accordance with such
codes and/or prevailing local codes/regulations is the
responsibility of the installer. The manufacturer assumes
no responsibility for equipment installed in violation of any
codes or regulations. Rated performance is achieved after
20 hours of operation.
Rated performance is delivered at the specified airflow.
See outdoor unit specification sheet for split system models
or product specification sheet for packaged and light
commercial models. Specification sheets can be found at
www.goodmanmfg.com for Goodman® brand products or
www.amana-hac.com for Amana® brand products. Within
either website, please select the residential or commercial
products menu and then select the submenu for the type
of product to be installed, such as air conditioners or heat
pumps, to access a list of product pages that each contain
links to that model's specification sheet.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) has issued various regulations regarding the
introduction and disposal of refrigerants. Failure to
follow these regulations may harm the environment
and can lead to the imposition of substantial fines.
Should you have any questions please contact the local
office of the EPA.
If replacing a condensing unit or air handler, the system
must be manufacturer approved and Air Conditioning,
Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) matched.
NOTE: Installation of unmatched systems is
strongly discouraged.

INSTALLATION & OPERATION GUIDELINES
Shipping Inspection
Verify unit condition and contents upon arrival. Keep unit upright.
Codes and Regulations
Ensure compliance with national/local codes and EPA rules.
System Matching
Use manufacturer-approved and AHRI-matched systems for optimal performance.
INSTALLATION CLEARANCES
Clearance and Placement
Maintain proper clearances for airflow and service access. Consider rooftop installation vibration.
SAFE REFRIGERANT HANDLING
Refrigerant Safety Precautions
Avoid breathing hazards and frostbite. Handle cylinders safely and comply with EPA regulations.
REFRIGERANT LINES
Tubing Installation
Use refrigerant grade copper. Keep clean/dry. Avoid contact. Insulate suction line.
Existing Line Sets
Drain/flush old systems. Consider indoor coil replacement.
BURYING REFRIGERANT LINES
Underground Installation
Insulate, enclose in waterproof material, and seal lines passing through concrete.
REFRIGERANT LINE CONNECTIONS
Brazing Procedures
Protect components, use silver alloy, no flux. Quench joints after brazing.
Pressure Testing
Perform standing pressure test with dry nitrogen to identify leaks before evacuation.
SYSTEM EVACUATION
Deep Vacuum Method
Evacuate to <500 microns. Hold vacuum for 10 min to check for leaks.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Wiring Requirements
Follow NEC/CEC/local codes. Use correct wire gauge for voltage drop.
OVERCURRENT PROTECTION & COMPRESSOR ROTATION
Protection Devices
Use time delay fuses or HACR breakers for overcurrent protection.
Compressor Rotation Verification
Verify three-phase compressor rotation by checking suction and discharge pressures.
SYSTEM START UP PROCEDURES
Valve and Power Checks
Open service valves carefully and ensure correct power supply to ECM motors.
Refrigerant Charge Adjustment
Check and adjust refrigerant charge using superheat/subcooling based on line set.
CHARGE VERIFICATION
Superheat/Subcooling Checks
Verify superheat/subcooling after system stabilization. Outdoor temp must be 60°F or higher.
Fixed Orifice Charging
Purge lines, connect manifold, run system 10 min. Adjust charge to meet targets.
EXPANSION VALVE SYSTEM
Subcooling Charge Method
Charge TXV systems by subcooling. Formula: Sat. Liquid Temp - Liquid Line Temp. Target 8°F +/- 1°F.
ADVANCED ADJUSTMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
Superheat Adjustment
Adjust TXV superheat by turning stem. Clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease. Follow table settings.
TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION
Common Complaints & Causes
Lists common complaints and their possible causes and testing methods.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS
Filter Maintenance
Check and clean/replace air filters monthly. Dirty filters reduce efficiency and can damage the unit.
Outdoor Coil Cleaning
Keep outdoor coil clean. Hire qualified servicer for cleaning to avoid damaging tubing.
Pre-Service Checks
Check thermostat settings, wait 15 mins, check breakers/fuses, disconnect switch, and obstructions.
START-UP CHECKLIST
Electrical Checks
Measure line and secondary voltages, compressor amps, and fan amps.
Temperature and Pressure Readings
Record indoor return/supply air temps, outdoor air temps, suction and liquid pressures/temps.
