Purpose: The document is intended for use by end-of-life recyclers or treatment facilities. It provides the basic instructions
for the disassembly of HPI products to remove components and materials requiring selective treatment, as defined by EU
directive 2012/19/EC, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
NOTE: Recyclers should sort plastic materials into resin streams for recycling based on the ISO 11469 plastic marking
code on the plastic part. For any questions on plastic marking, please contact
1.0 Items Requiring Selective Treatment
1.1 Items listed below are classified as requiring selective treatment.
1.2 Enter the quantity of items contained within the product which require selective treatment in the right column, as
applicable.
Item Description
Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) or Printed Circuit
Assemblies (PCA)
Batteries, excluding Li-Ion batteries.
Li-Ion batteries. Include all Li-Ion batteries if more
than one is provided with the product (such as a
detachable notebook keyboard battery, RTC coin
cell, etc.)
Mercury-containing components
Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) with a surface greater
than 100 sq cm
Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT)
Capacitors / condensers (Containing PCB/PCT)
Electrolytic Capacitors / Condensers measuring
greater than 2.5 cm in diameter or height
External electrical cables and cords
Gas Discharge Lamps

Tools Required
Hexagon Screw Driver
T-15 size screwdriver for disassembly.
Crisscross Screw Driver
PH1 size screwdriver for disassembly.
Electric Iron
QUICK 310, likely for desoldering or heating.
Product Disassembly Process
Remove Access Panel
Remove access panel using T-15 screwdriver.
Disconnect ODD Cables
Disconnect ODD power and SATA cables.
Remove ODD
Press ODD's latch and remove from cage.
Remove Front Bezel
Detach the front bezel from the chassis.
Disconnect HDD Cables
Disconnect HDD power and SATA cables.
Remove Drive Cage
Remove the drive cage assembly.
Remove HDD
Unscrew and remove HDD from its cage.
Disconnect MB Cables
Disconnect all cables connected to the motherboard.
Disconnect Fan Cables
Disconnect system and cooler fan cables from motherboard.
Remove CPU Cooler and Fan
Unscrew and remove CPU cooler and fan assembly.
Remove Memory Modules
Remove memory modules from the motherboard.
Remove CPU
Carefully remove the CPU from its socket.
Remove M.2 Cards
Remove SSD M.2 and WLAN M.2 cards.
Remove System Battery
Remove the coin cell battery from the system board.
Remove Motherboard (MB)
Unscrew and remove the motherboard from the chassis.
Remove Speaker
Disconnect and remove the speaker from the chassis.
Remove System Fan
Disconnect and remove the system fan.
Remove Antenna Cables
Disconnect and remove front and rear antenna cables.
Remove Power Supply Unit (PSU)
Unscrew and remove the PSU from the chassis.
Remove PSU Cover and Fan
Remove PSU cover, disconnect fan, and remove PSU fan.
Remove Electrolytic Capacitor
Remove electrolytic capacitor from PCBA.
