    Preface Thank you for purchasing the Canon imageCLASS MF5650. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the machine in order to familiarize yourself with its capabilities, and to make the most of its many functions. After reading this manual, store it in a safe place for future reference.

    Coded Speed Dialing Press [Coded Dial] enter the desired two-digit code (00 to 99) with the numeric keys. The number registered under that coded speed dialing code is displayed. <NOT REGISTERED> appears if no fax/telephone number is assigned to the coded speed dialing code you entered.

    Redialing a Busy Number There are two methods of redialing: - Manual Redialing - Automatic Redialing Manual Redialing Press [Redial/Pause] to redial the last number entered with the numeric keys. NOTE To cancel manual redialing, press [Stop/Reset]. Automatic Redialing When using memory sending to send a document and the recipient's line is busy, the machine will redial the number after an interval.

    To use regular dialing: Use the numeric keys to enter the fax/telephone number press [OK]. You can dial up to one destination. Press [Redial/Pause] to redial the last number dialed with the numeric keys. To use directory dialing: Press [Directory]. Press a numeric key which contains the first letter of the desired destination press [OK].

    Troubleshooting CHAPTER This chapter describes the problems you might encounter during fax operations and their remedies. It also explains what to do if you cannot solve the problem by yourself. LCD Messages The following messages are displayed in the LCD when the machine performs a function or if it encounters an error.

    #018 Cause The other fax machine does not answer even after several redialing attempts, or the other fax machine is busy and did not respond within 55 seconds. Remedy Wait a few minutes and try sending again. If you still cannot send the document, contact the other party and confirm that the other fax machine has been turned on.

    Is the document loaded? Remove the document, stack it if necessary, and place it on the platen glass or load it in the ADF " " correctly. For more information, see Chapter 3, Document Handling, in the User’s Guide. Cannot send using ECM (Error Correction Mode). Does the receiving fax machine support ECM? If the receiving fax machine does not support ECM, the document is sent in the normal mode without error checking.

For the machine to switch automatically, the receive mode must be set to <AnsMode>. (See Chapter 5, "Receiving Faxes.") Confirm that an answering machine is connected to the machine and that it is turned on with an outgoing message properly recorded.
  • Page 46 Faxes do not print. Is the cartridge installed properly? Make sure the cartridge is installed properly. For more information, see Chapter 8, "Maintenance," in the User’s Guide. Is the sealing tape removed from the cartridge? Remove the sealing tape from the cartridge. (See "Install cartridge," in the Set-Up Sheet.) Is any toner left in the cartridge? Replace the cartridge with a new one.

    Cannot receive a fax using ECM (Error Correction Mode). Does the sending fax machine support ECM? If the sending fax machine does not support ECM, the document is received in the normal mode without error checking. Errors occur frequently while receiving. Are the telephone lines in proper condition? Or do you have a good connection? Lower the reception speed.
