Usage and Safety Recommendations
![]()
For your safety, do not use this product before you have read and understood these warnings and instructions and, above all, follow them. The practice of foiling involves significant accident risks. Poor handling of the foil can result in cuts, serious injuries, or even death, for you or others.

Injury Risks
Our foils are designed for optimal performance, which requires the use of thin trailing edges. These technical adjustments enhance hydrodynamic performance but also pose risks of cuts and serious injuries in the event of direct contact with the edges or wings of the foil.
Safety Instructions
Foiling must be practiced with all the usual precautions for surfing, kiting, or winging, along with additional precautions specific to foiling. It is important to remember that a foil is long, sharp, and can reach high speeds. Being hit by a foil or hitting someone else can have serious consequences. These are not toys. You must protect yourself by never putting yourself in a risky situation. Your behavior determines your level of risk. In addition to what is stated in each product's user manual, it is crucial to follow some simple rules:
- Use of Protective Equipment: It is essential to wear appropriate protective equipment, such as a helmet, a full wetsuit, an impact vest, and protective booties, to minimize the risk of injury. Foils have blunt areas that are necessary for their proper functioning but pose a real danger in the event of a collision. As a user, you are most exposed to this risk while on the equipment. Therefore, you must protect yourself accordingly with appropriate and compliant protective gear.
- Foil handling: Handle your foil carefully, especially out of the water. Be extra vigilant when touching the edges without proper protection.
- Transport and Storage: During transport and storage, use protective covers to avoid accidental contact with sharp parts.
- Leash Use: Except for kitefoil boards, always equip your board with a leash of at least the same length as the board, as well as foot straps. These elements prevent the board from being fully released towards other users. Never foil at a distance shorter than the length of your leash, plus the length of your board, plus your drift from other riders, to maintain a sufficient safety distance in case of a fall. You should never allow a third party into this diameter which constitutes the area where your activity poses a risk.
- Only practice in spots suitable for the activity (safe water entry, no shorebreak, even seabed, orientation aligned with wind direction, etc.) and not frequented by participants of other water sports. The speeds reached with a foil require practicing alone or with other foilers to ensure an environment where everyone consciously anticipates each other's trajectories.
- Strictly follow the right-of-way rules, especially since the inertia and maneuverability of foils differ from traditional boards, particularly for beginners. Courtesy and a sense of responsibility should be part of your practice to avoid deviant behaviors that could lead to accidents.
- Be mindful of other iders and, in general, all users of the water, even if they do not have priority in the area where you are operating (they may underestimate your speed and danger zone). Never practice near children or those unfamiliar with this sport, as their reactions could be completely unpredictable. You would be fully liable. GONG SUP makes every effort to warn you of the risks and explain the recommended practice framework. You cannot ignore these instructions as it would put you, others, and the reputation of GONG SUP — a responsible company — at risk.
- Pay attention to water depth, as the presence of an appendage several tens of centimeters below a beachcraft is a new consideration for many practitioners, even those familiar with water sports. Breakages due to impact or contact with the bottom are not covered by the warranty.
- Maintain and regularly check your equipment, and do not make any technical modifications other than using products and solutions marketed by GONG-GALAXY.
- Start with supervision: It is highly recommended to begin foil practice in a proper learning environment, within a certified club or school, and to read all our articles on the GONG forum. This helps you acquire a sufficient level of autonomy and awareness of the challenges involved in foil practice.
By using this product, you accept all risks associated with its use, including bodily injuries and material damages. The company disclaims any responsibility in case of injury or accident resulting from the use of this foil, whether proper or improper, and from non-compliance with the safety instructions mentioned in this manual. The user is fully responsible for their own equipment and its use.
Maintenance
- Disassembly/Rinsing/Protection
The fuselage of your foil is made of aluminum or titanium. The screws and inserts for carbon masts are metal. These metal components are naturally prone to a common phenomenon called galvanic corrosion, especially in salty environments. Therefore, the foil requires diligent maintenance. It is essential to fully disassemble and thoroughly rinse your foil after each use and store it dry in its cover between sessions.
Failure to follow this recommendation will lead to premature and irreversible wear of the foil. Even if corrosion is not visible externally on the fuselage, the metal can still corrode internally, eventually causing a complete break. GONG SUP 1 cannot be held responsible in the event of an accident due to poor equipment maintenance.
To preserve your foil, GONG SUP 1 recommends regularly applying an anti-galvanic corrosion lubricant to the fitting areas and screw inserts. As for the carbon parts of your foil, regular maintenance and inspection of their condition are necessary. - Repair/Replacement of Consumables
Carbon is a noble and high-performing material if well-maintained. However, it is sensitive to impacts, especially on the tips and trailing edges. A crack or damage to the carbon can be particularly harmful and significantly reduce the foil's performance. Consult your local repairer/shaper promptly to restore your equipment if you notice any damage.
Ensure that no sand gets into the inserts or housings before screwing. If sand has infiltrated, rinse it thoroughly with plenty of water. Otherwise, this could cause irreversible damage to the threads.
Always check that all elements of the foil are securely tightened before each use.
As soon as you notice irreparable degradation of your equipment, check our online spare parts catalog on the website WWW.GONG-GALAXY.COM, and replace the worn parts. Regularly change your screws as well.
