    M150XY(/M) Brushless DC Motor Driven XY stage Chapter 1: Safety Information Chapter 1 Safety Information For the continuing safety of the operators of this equipment, and the protection of the equipment itself, the operator should take note of the Warnings, Cautions, and Notes throughout this handbook and, where visible, on the product itself.

    T-shaped handles. The T-shaped handles and transportation brackets should be fastened onto the top of the M150XY(/M) stage using the 1/4-20" (M6 x 1.0 mm) tapped holes shown in Figure 1. The handles and brackets must be securely fastened to ensure safe usage while moving the M150XY(/M) stage.

This can result in injury to the user or damage to the stage. Note Remove the transportation bracket before use and install back while transporting the unit.

If the unit has been stored at a low temperature or in an environment of high humidity, it must be allowed to reach ambient conditions before being powered up.

    3.3.3 Mounting the Stage to the Work Surface Figure 4 The M150XY(/M) stage is mounted using the four slots designed for 1/4" - 20 (M6 x 1.0 mm) socket cap screws (not provided). Caution Ensure that the stage is securely fastened to the work surface. When mounting the stage to the work surface, use only the four slots in the base plate as shown above.

    Chapter 3: Installation Electrical Connections The stage must be driven by a Thorlabs BBD series controller. It is recommended to use the 2- channel BBD302 controller. Connect the motor leads to the MOTOR DRIVE connectors, and the encoder feedback leads to the FEEDBACK connectors.

    The M150XY(/M) stage is designed to be driven by the Thorlabs BBD302 Brushless DC Motor Controllers. The M150XY(/M) stage is connected to the controller via 2 flying leads terminated in D-type connectors (FEEDBACK) and 2 leads terminated in round 8-Pin DIN Connectors (MOTOR DRIVE). See Section 3.4 for details on the pin assignments.

    Refer to the handbook supplied with the BBD controller and the helpfile supplied with the software for more information. The MX150XY(/M) is fully compatible with Thorlabs' Kinesis and XA software applications. The remainder of this manual describes the use of the stage with Kinesis software. For information about operation using Thorlabs' XA software, please refer to the XA User Guide.
  • Page 15 M150XY(/M) Brushless DC Motor Driven XY stage Chapter 4: Operation Caution The enable button of the controller should be used as a normal stop. The operational stop is the stop button on the interface software. On pressing the button, the moving plates will come to a complete stop.

    M150XY(/M) Brushless DC Motor Driven XY stage Chapter 4: Operation Note Usually, the acceleration and velocity are 1000 mm/s and 100 mm/s respectively. When the stage is loaded heavily, e.g. 6 kg to 10 kg, the maximum achievable acceleration and velocity would be lower, such as 600 mm/s and 75 mm/s.

    The product is maintenance free up to 5 million cycles. It is recommended to replace the internal flexible cable and relubricate the bearing carriers every 5 million cycles. The customer should contact their local Thorlabs Tech Support if any issues arise for more information.

    XY control, a speed adjustment for fast or high precision movement, and a high-quality, anodized aluminum casing. It does not come with the stage. The BBD302 brushless DC servo controller is the recommended controller for the M150XY(/M) stage. It has 2 channels enabling control of both X- and Y- axes simultaneously.
