Set up your unit with a Windows computer
Install the Windows standalone driver, insert the adapter into your computer, and join a WiFi network using the built-in Windows WiFi network settings.
Install the Windows standalone driver
The Windows standalone driver allows you to use your computer's built-in Windows WiFi network settings to connect the adapter to a WiFi network.
- Visit netgear.com/A6150-download and download the latest software file for Windows.
- Right-click the .zip file that you previously downloaded to your computer and select Extract All.
- Click Extract.
- Double-click the file that ends in .exe to launch the installation program.
- Follow the steps displayed on screen to complete installation.
Join a WiFi network using the built-in Windows WiFi network settings
- Make sure that the standalone driver is installed.
- Insert the adapter into a USB port on your computer.
- Open the WiFi network settings on your computer by right-clicking the WiFi icon (
) or the No Internet Access icon (
) displayed in the lower right corner of your screen. - (Windows 11 only) Click Manage Wi-Fi connections (>), which is next to the WiFi icon.
- Select your network's name and click Connect.
- Enter the network security key (WiFi password) and click Next.
When you see the message "Connected, secured", setup is complete. - Press the ESC key or click on the desktop to exit WiFi network settings.
Set up your unit with a Mac computer
Install the Mac adapter software, insert the adapter into your computer, and join a WiFi network using the Mac adapter software.
Install Mac adapter software
- Visit netgear.com/A6150-download and download the latest software file for Mac.
- Double-click the the .zip file that you previously downloaded to your computer.
- Double-click the file that ends in .dmg to launch the installation program.
- Follow the steps displayed on screen to complete installation.
Join a WiFi network using the Mac adapter software
- Make sure that the Mac adapter software is installed.
- Insert the adapter into a USB port on your computer.
- Click the
icon in your Mac's top menu bar.
A list of WiFi networks in your area displays. - Select a WiFi network.
- Enter the network security key (WiFi password) and click Join.
The adapter joins the network, which might take a few minutes.
View your connection status
On Windows computers, you can check the connection status using the WiFi icon that displays in the lower right corner of your screen. The more bars the icon displays, the stronger your connection is.
On Mac computers, you can check the connection status using the adapter icon that displays in your top menu bar. The color of the icon indicates the strength of your WiFi connection:
White: Strong connection
Yellow: Weak connection
Red: No connection
