    The main purpose of SCD vents is to vent smoke and hot and toxic gases that occur in the ceiling space when a fire occurs. The SCD flaps manufactured by Smay Sp. z o.o. have opened flaps filled with light-transmitting material, which makes them also serve as roof skylights. Another function that, with appropriate instrumentation, they can perform is that of periodic ventilation.

    4. 8. O PT IO N AL A CC E S R O IE S 4.8.1. WIND DEFLECTORS Wind deflectors are designed to maximize the active area of smoke vents. They are used when the anticipated wind effect would reduce the active area of the smoke flap. They are profiled elements made of galvanized steel sheet with dimensions optimized by aerodynamic testing.

    4.8.3. KA SECURITY GRATES The purpose of the security grating is to protect the building from unauthorised entry, through the smoke vent. The grates are manufactured in the full range of one- and two-flap vent sizes. The security grates are made using standard and special galvanised steel profiles and 1/2" tubes. The maximum pipe spacing is 180 mm.

    To close the "A" flap after emergency opening, do the following: 1. Remove the cartridge from the TAVE thermal release or AK alarm box. There will be an outflow of CO2 gas from the system. ATTENTION! The rapid unscrewing of the cartridge is accompanied by rapid cooling of the cylinder. 2.Unlock the actuator by moving the locking pins (see Fig.20.).

    5.1.5. CYLINDERS (CARTRIDGES) Cylinders with compressed CO2 are the source of energy for the basic function of the smoke vents with a pneumatic drive. They are equipped with safety valves. The connection thread is ½" UNF (extra-fine). Fig.25.CO cartridges When a cylinder with CO2 has been punctured, the gas rapidly expands and stays cool at the same time. It may result in liquid CO2 freezing inside the cylinder.

    5.1.7. PLZ VENTILATION BOXES PLZ ventilation boxes are important elements of smoke vent control systems with a ventilation function. They make it possible to carry out the ventilation function, and – at the same time – to keep the priority of the smoke exhaust function. The ventilation function is activated by means of a manual lever valve.

For that reason it is very important to connect individual elements of the pneumatic system very carefully. For this level of pressure it is recommended to make the installation of certified elements: Ø6/4 copper tubes, 10000-series screw connectors.

    5. 2. E LE CT R I C D RI V E S 5.2.1. CONFIGURATION Electrically operated vents come fitted with 24V actuators. The same actuator serves the function of emergency operation and ventilation. The components of the control system include: control panel, 24V - DC, manual alarm button. Emergency start-up can be achieved: Automatically - by an electrical signal sent through smoke or temperature detectors.

No work may be undertaken on the control unit until the power supply has been disconnected! All works must be performed in accordance with the "Installation and Operating Manual" in its complete version, which is supplied with the control unit.

CERTIFICATE The vents may only be installed by companies trained by Smay Sp. z o.o. on the technical properties of the product, the conditions for carrying out the works, and the control of completed works. The employees must hold a personal certificate issued by Smay Sp. z o.o. authorising them to install the SCD vents.
  • Page 68 The works related to assembly and subsequent operation, maintenance and servicing of the vents should be completed in accordance with health and safety regulations. Work at height is a particular risk in this case. Anyone who performs it should be protected by specialist equipment. This Technical and Operational Documentation presents the installation issues only in an illustrative manner.
