Section 1: Introduction 1.1 About This Manual The ACM-8R is an element in the Notifier ACS class of annunciators. It provides the Notifier control panels with a relay control module that can be mapped on newer panels and on older panels such as the System 5000 or System 500 memory map (by groups of eight). 1.2 UL 864 9th and 10th Edition Per the UL Continuing Certification Program, UL 864 9th edition fire alarm control equipment will retain certification after the rollout of UL 10th edition (12/2/2018).

Section 3: Design Considerations 3.1 Limits The ACM-8R is a member of the Notifier ACS class of annunciators. Up to 32 annunciators may be installed on an EIA-485 circuit. The actual number of annunciator modules may be larger depending on the number of expander modules employed. 3.2 Wire Runs Communication between the Control Panel and the ACM-8R is accomplished over a power-limited two-wire EIA-485 serial interface.
End of Line Resistor for EIA-485 Circuit Design Considerations • When the EIA-485 shield is not in conduit: Terminate the shield at the outside of the FACP backbox (ground). Do not allow the shield to enter or even touch the cabinet. Between annunciators, wire-nut multiple shields together outside of the respective enclosures (see Figure 3.2).
Design Considerations Remote Power Source for Annunciators 3.8 Remote Power Source for Annunciators If the ACM-8R and other annunciator-type modules are to be powered from a remote supply, a common connection between the nega- tive battery terminals of each supply must be made. Fire Alarm Control Panel Annunciator in a Backbox, powered from the Control Panel...
Section 4: Installing the ACM-8R 4.1 Remote Applications For remote applications, use the ABS-8RB enclosure Select an appropriate knockout on the ABS-8RB enclosure. Mount the backbox. The enclosure must be connected to a solid Earth Ground (do not use conduit for this purpose). Pull all annunciator wiring into the enclosure. ...

Installing the ACM-8R Relay Terminal Assignments 4.7 Relay Terminal Assignments The ACM-8R provides eight relays with Form-C contacts rated for 5 amps. The terminal assignments are illustrated below. For selecting where in the control panel's memory map these relays will be assigned, refer to Table 4.1. For information on wiring limitations, refer to Section 4.10 “UL Power-limited Wiring Requirements”.
Row and Module Arrangement (System 5000/ System 500 only) Installing the ACM-8R NOTE: Table 4.1 outlines relay assignments at a given EIA-485 address. A single EIA-485 address can support up to 64 points. At address '1,' the information corresponds directly with system points. However, point 1 in Table 4.1 at address '2' actually represents the 65th point in the system;...

Installing the ACM-8R UL Power-limited Wiring Requirements Nonpower-limited Power-limited Circuits Circuits 1) If a mix of power-limited and nonpower- limited circuits are connected to relays, skip a set of dry contacts to maintain 0.25" spacing between power-limited and nonpower- limited circuits. 2) If only power-limited or nonpower-limited circuits are being employed, all relays may ACM-8R be used without skipping any for spacing purposes.
