Up to four simultaneous SD inputs can be recorded individually, or all 4 combined into one HD quad. FlashBack-4 can provide power for cameras, which can be set to 5V, 9V or 12V at up to 300 mA per i-Conex by the Wizard.

Figure 7: Basic Single Channel SD Installation In its most basic form, just two connections are required for FlashBack-4 operation, power and video. Fit the power cable and the BNC / Camera DC power adaptor cable to the yellow input, and apply DC power as shown above.
FlashBack-4 2.6 GPS Receiver Connection FlashBack-4 can show GPS positional information on-screen in lat / long or MGRS formats. GPS is also stored as metadata on the SD card which can be used to view the track of the device with the web-browser player provided on the SD card (see Section 5.3, page 19).

Ensure the maximum card operating temperature is in line with expected operating ambient temperature plus 15ºC (+27ºF) to allow for internal heating. FlashBack-4 has a maximum operational temperature of +60ºC (140ºF), so a card with a +80ºC (176ºF) temperature specification is recommended (eg SanDisk Extreme or similar).

Once recording, the DVR status LED flashes green. TIP► FlashBack-4 can be configured by the Wizard to fill the SD card and then stop, or loop around the card. (see Section 4 on page 15). 4. To stop recording, press the blue [Stop] button (or open “Control Input 1”). The record file is closed, indicated by fast flashing green, and the card is ready to be removed as soon as the DVR Status LED reverts to static green.

Click [Save] and remove the card from your PC and wait until the onscreen count has reached “Insert Card” before pushing home into a powered FlashBack-4. FlashBack-4 video files are made using H.264 compression in Adobe FLV format which are playable with VLC (www.videolan.org) etc. FLV files are used because they can be easily streamed and the last file is still playable in the event of loss of power while recording.
5.3 Using Ovation’s Web Browser Player Ovation has developed a player that allows a user to quickly find events and review the recordings made by FlashBack-4. This runs only in the FireFox browser. The player can be started by opening the “player.html"...
FlashBack-4 Ethernet Connection FlashBack-4 has an Ethernet connection which is used to stream live video and to configure and control the unit via a webpage interface. An i-Conex to Ethernet RJ45 adaptor is provided which is fitted to the brown input as show below.
For DHCP addressing check “DHCP on”. Complete the Wizard and transfer the configuration to the target FlashBack-4. Once the IP address has been served, it is written to the SD card as an HTML link called “fb4_webpage.html” Note: to allow the link to be updated keep the card in place for at least 20 seconds.
FlashBack-4 6.2 Webpage interface FlashBack-4’s webpage allows you to remotely access the unit. The Home page shows the camera view (as either a JPEG preview or as live stream) as well as the configuration and status of the unit’s main functions. Tabs at the top the page allow you to navigate to the configuration pages.
FlashBack-4 firmware will be upgraded from time to time to provide new features and/or fix software issues. When available new updates will be posted to the “FlashBack-4” section of Ovation's secure user area.
