Prior to the first use

  • Remove all packaging materials.
  • Clean all parts using warm water and a mild detergent. Do not use any aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents. Dry the parts off completely.
  • To prepare the burner remove the upper part, place an aluminium cup with fuel paste into the lower section and tear open the cover. Alternatively, refill an existing aluminium cup with fuel paste. Make sure that the burner is sealed properly, before it is placed back inside the warmer.
  • Your fondue set is now ready for use.

Use

burn hazardRisk of burns or injury!
Very high temperatures are generated during use, the fondue pot, the warmer and the paste burner become hot. Residual heat remains even after use. Touch the pot and the paste burner by the handles only and place them on heat-resistant coasters only. Use our SPRING GRIPS pot holders or gloves, if necessary.

  • Place the warmer on a stable, level and non-flammable surface. If necessary, use a washable, sufficiently heat-resistant mat to protect sensitive surfaces from dripping cheese or splashes.
  • Use the heat distribution plate provided to prevent the caquelon from overheating or the cheese from burning.

Cheese fondue

  • For cheese fondue use well-melting, aromatic cheeses, such as Gruyère, Appenzeller and/or Emmentaler.
  • Prepare a cheese fondue at medium heat and melt the cheese mixture while permanently stirring. Form an 8 so that the cheese melts evenly and the ingredients combine well. The fondue pot should not be filled more than approx. 2⁄3.
  • Place the fondue pot with the melted cheese onto an appropriate warmer including a heat distribution disc. If necessary, wear oven mitts when carrying the fondue pot.
  • Now, use a stick lighter or a long match to ignite the fuel paste in the paste burner.
  • You can set the intensity of the flame in accordance with the temperature you need. Move the top ring of the burner to the left or to the right in order to control the strength of the flame. You reach the maximum temperature when all the holes are open; the smallest flame is produced when all the side holes are closed.
  • Use the forks to skewer the prepared pieces of food like bread cubes or cooked pieces of vegetables, and dip them in the melted cheese. Remember the marking on the handle of your fork to avoid confusion.
  • From time to time, stir the melted cheese to avoid sticking on the bottom of the fondue pot.

Never leave the fondue pot unattended or in the proximity of children when it contains melted cheese.

Help children to dip and take out their pieces of food.

Refill the paste burner

  • Use the lid to extinguish the flame and let the paste burner cool down.
  • Remove the paste burner from the warmer and open it (screw closure).
  • Refill the empty aluminium cup with fuel paste (max. 2/3). Alternatively, place a new aluminium cup with fuel paste into the lower section and tear open the cover.
  • Close the burner (screw closure).
  • Tip: For a better burning behaviour and especially after long periods of non-use, remove any remaining old fuel paste from the aluminium cup and dispose of it before refilling the burner.

Cleaning

  • Extinguish the burner by closing the holes and placing the lid on the burner.
  • Before cleaning, assure that the burner has extinguished completely and allow all parts to cool down.
  • Allow the fondue pot to cool down completely, it should not be exposed to a temperature shock.
  • The fondue pot is dishwasher-safe. Nevertheless, we recommend cleaning by hand with warm water and amild detergent.
  • We recommend cleaning the paste burner after each use with water and a mild detergent or the SPRING CLEANER. Residues of dirt may impair the adjustability of the burner.
  • In case of stubborn residues, you can soak the fondue pot in cold water. Afterwards the fondue pot can becleaned effortlessly with warm water and mild detergent.
  • Avoid using abrasive sponges, sharp or pointed objects, benzine, solvents, scrubbing brushes or abrasive cleaning agents.
  • The bottom is not glazed. Allow the fondue pot to dry completely upside down.
  • Make sure that all parts are completely dry before using them again or storing them.

Safety instructions for the paste burner

  • The paste burner may only be used by persons who are fit to operate it and are fully aware of and familiar with the scope of the safety instructions specified in these instructions for use. Operation by children is not recommended.
  • The only fuel permitted is the fuel paste contained in the aluminium cup/goblet. When the aluminium cup is exhausted, the fuel paste can be replenished.
  • Operate and store the burner on a horizontal surface only. Do not tip or tilt the burner.

Tipping or tilting may cause flash fire.

  • The burner may be used in well-ventilated rooms only.
  • Before every use, verify the adjustability of the burner. If its adjustability is limited, it may not be possible to extinguish a very hot burner. If this is the case, let the burner burn out in a safe place.

Before lighting the burner, make sure its upper and lower section have been securely twisted together. The lower section may otherwise detach when the burner is lifted and fall down while still burning.

  • Use long matches or stick lighters for lighting. Hand-held lighters are not suitable.
  • Do not carry the burner with an open flame even if the flame is burning in the warmer. There is a fire hazard from stumbling, dropping, an air blow or carelessness.
  • operation, Never leave the burner unattended during operation and use it only for its intended purpose.
  • The burner may be used only if placed at a safe distance from flammable substances. Keep a minimum distance of 1 m to any adjoining surfaces (e.g. walls, ceilings, etc.).

  • Assure after each use and before filling in new fuel paste that the burner has completely extinguished and cooled down.
  • Use the corresponding lid only to extinguish the burner. There is a fire hazard if other objects are used. If a burner is very hot and does not extinguish right away after the lid was put on, remove the lid again and allow the burner to burn a few minutes longer at the lowest adjustment setting. This will reduce the heat and allow you to use the lid to easily extinguish the burner afterwards.
  • Make sure to let the burner cool down after use.
  • Also follow the warnings printed on the refill containers.
  • The burner is delivered unfilled.
