    The wood in your Erica comes unfinished. This means each piece has not been finely sanded to the same degree as other, finished, Louet products. Rough edges are common in the Erica and can be smoothed out with the sand paper provided. Due to high quality manufacturing and materials used, Louët products are durable and will last for many decades of regular use.

    This manual guides you step-by-step, through the final assembly. The photos shown in this manual are of the 2-shaft version of the Erica 30. The assembly for the Erica 50 is done in the same way. Instructions for the 4-shaft-version are included.
  • Page 9 HARDWARE SCREW The manual indicates which screw to use. Screw holes are pre-drilled in the wood. Use the Pz2-screwdriver provided. The screw cuts a thread into the wood. If you need to remove a screw and later replace it, make sure you use the existing thread in the wood.

  • Page 28 Slide the nut into the top hole and turn the 12 mm bolt from above into the shaft side until the bolt is just through the nut. Lay the shaft sides down as shown in the photo. Thread the elastic cord through the second hole from the top through both shaft sides.
  • Page 29 Insert for each shaft two metal rods (Ø 6 mm) into the holes of a shaft side. Slide a bundle of heddles onto the rods and remove the ties. Attach the other shaft side to the rods. Push the shaft sides firmly so that the rods are completely in the hole. If you install more than 2 shafts, you can split the bundle to transfer heddles to another shaft: count the number of heddles you want and cut them apart.

  • Page 32 When placing the shafts in the castle, you start at the rear shaft. It is going to be attached to the rightmost toggle. Place a shaft with the bolt end pointing upwards in the castle and place the elastics around the corresponding roller at the base of the uprights. Fold one of the shaft cords in half and insert the middle end, from back to front, through the hole of the rightmost toggle.

  • Page 37 Take the screws and nylon bushings from the small bag. Slide the bushings over the 4 x 25 mm screws and screw these into the holes at the bottom of the sides. Slip the nylon caps over the bushings at the bottom side of the loom sides. Tap 2 dowels (hardware bag 1) and 2 nylon bearings (hardware bag 4) into the holes in the loom sides.

  • Page 47 USER INSTRUCTIONS--- WARPING ACCESSORIES The Texsolv cord (120cm) holds the lease rods in place while warping. The lease rods ensure that the threads remain organized during the warping proces. In the photo (13a) you can see how the cord is attached to the uprights. Cardboard warping strips in order to obtain an even tension on all warp threads, warping strips are distributed between the layers of yarn on the warpbeam, so that yarn winds evenly.

  • Page 52 FOLDING THE LOOM To fold your loom, first unscrew the thread eyes far enough to lift the castle out of the frame. Pull the beater forward so that the reed lies against the breast beam. Place the cardboard sheet on the warp between the reed and the shafts. Remove the pawl from the warp beam ratchet.
  • Page 53 ADDING AND MOVING HEDDLES The Erica uses 150 mm Texsolv heddles. A new bundle of heddles has four twist ties which prevent the heddles from unwinding and getting tangled. Do not throw these ties away. You may need to use them again when moving heddles to another shaft.
