  • Page 3 AGD 12/4 2.0 I NSTALLATION Unpacking & Handling When unpacking or moving the furnace always lift it by its base. Never lift it by its work tubes or the surrounding insulation. Ideally use two people to carry the furnace. Remove any packing material from inside the furnace before use.
  • Page 4 AGD 12/4 Electrical Connections Connection by a qualified electrician is recommended. The furnace may be ordered for single phase A.C. supply, which may be Live to Neutral non- reversible, Live to Neutral reversible or Live to Live; it may also be ordered for three phase use, either 3-phase + neutral or 3-phase delta.
  • Page 5 AGD 12/4 3.0 O PERATION The instructions for operating the temperature controller are given in a separate manual. If the furnace is fitted with a time switch, see also the supplementary manual MS03. If cascade control is fitted, see the supplementary manual MS07.
  • Page 6 (a contactor is used in models where the rated current exceeds 16 Amps). Avoid burns. Carbolite can supply tongs, face masks, and heat resistant gloves. Before you remove a hot object from the furnace make sure you have a safe place to put it down.

Recommended Spares Kits Carbolite can supply individual spares, or a kit of the items most likely to be required. Ordering a kit in advance can save time in the event of a breakdown. Each kit comprises one thermocouple, one solid state relay, and one heating element.
  • Page 8 AGD 12/4 5.0 R & R EPAIRS EPLACEMENTS Safety Warning – Disconnection from Supply Always ensure that the furnace is disconnected from the supply before repair work is carried out. Safety Warning - Refractory Fibrous Insulation This furnace contains refractory fibres in its thermal insulation. These materials may be in the form of fibre blanket or felt, vacuum formed board or shapes, mineral wool slab or loose fill fibre.

  • Page 10 Replace any failed fuses with the correct type. For safety reasons do not fit larger capacity fuses without first consulting Carbolite. The fuses are near the cable entry point, and access is by removal of the back panel of the base or control box.
