Product Components

Your Original-Equipment Keyless Entry Transmitter

The Keyless Entry transmitter that came with your vehicle controls the arming and disarming functions of the Security System. The system is armed when the doors are locked with the keyless entry transmitter. The system is disarmed when the driver's door is unlocked with the keyless entry transmitter.

The Status Indicator

The Status Indicator is a high-intensity red indicator that will be visible through the driver's side window. This red light provides a visual indication of the security system's state of operation. Note the chart below:

If the Status indicator is.. ..Then the Security System is
Off Disarmed
Flashing (about once per second) Armed
Flashing 3 times (3 flashes...2 second pause...repeat) System was triggered in your absence or Pre-Arm Mode engaged

The Emergency Override Button

The Emergency Override Button is used in conjunction with the vehicle ignition to disarm the security system in the event a malfunction occurs. This button is located on the driver's kick panel. (See Figure A)

Operation

Arming the Device with the Keyless Entry Transmitter

To arm the system, close all doors, then press the lock button on your remote transmitter. The horn will beep softly one time and the parking lights will flash one time to indicate the system has been armed. The red status indicator light will blink steadily, once per second.

Pre-Arm Mode

If the horn beeps 3 times and the parking lights flash 3 times when the doors are locked, the system is in pre-arm mode. Pressing the door trim switch to the lock position with any door or liftgate open will cause this to occur. Once all entrances are closed, the system will protect all doors and liftgate.

NOTE: If pre-arm mode is engaged, the shock sensor is activated immediately. Therefore, if the open door or liftgate is slammed closed, the impact may trigger the shock sensor requiring the user to disarm the system. Refer to the "Accessing and Adjusting the Shock Sensor Sensitivity" section to decrease the shock sensor sensitivity, if necessary.

Alternate Arming Method

Arming the Security System with the door key
After you exit the vehicle, close and lock the doors with the key in the driver's door lock cylinder. The horn will beep softly 1 time and the parking lights will flash 1 time to indicate the system has been armed.

Disarming the System

To disarm the system, press the unlock button on your remote transmitter, or unlock the driver's side door with the key. The horn will beep softly 2 times and the parking lights will flash 2 times to indicate the system has been disarmed. If the horn honks and the parking lights flash 4 times, the system was triggered in your absence.

Emergency Override Procedure

In the unlikely event that the security system cannot be disarmed or the vehicle does not start, the following procedure can be used to override the system.

  1. Enter the vehicle (the horn may begin sounding).
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  3. Press the Emergency Override Button. The security system is now disarmed.

Starter Interrupt

Starter Interrupt is an automatic feature of your security system. The starter is disabled any time the security system is armed, so the vehicle cannot be started even when using the key.

When the System is Triggered

The security system will trigger if one of the following events occur during it's armed state:

  • Any door or liftgate is opened.
  • The shock sensor detects an impact to the vehicle.

Once the security system is triggered, the following events occur:

  • The security system sounds the horn for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the system checks to see if allentrances are closed. If an entrance is left open, the security system will sound the horn for another 30 second period.
  • The parking lights will also flash during the 30 second cycle.

Trigger Identification

If the horn sounds 4 times and the red status indicator light flashes 3 times and repeats when disarming the security system, this indicates that the security system was triggered in your absence.

Special Instructions for Low Vehicle Battery Problems

If you are attempting to start your vehicle when the battery is low, the security system may disable the starter due to low operating voltage. To eliminate this problem, press and hold the Emergency Override button while turning the ignition (see "Emergency Override Procedure").

Arm & Disarm Horn Chirps

The security system can be programmed to arm and disarm silently, or with audible horn chirps. Turn the ignition on and then off, then quickly press the Emergency Override Button 3 times.

If you hear.. ..This means
1 chirp you have turned audible chirps on
2 chirps you have turned audible chirps off

Accessing and Adjusting the Shock Sensor Sensitivity

Use the following instructions to access the shock sensor, and to adjust the sensitivity.

  1. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, remove the (2) plastic fasteners in the black lower dash panel. (See Figure B)
  2. Remove the black lower dash panel by disengaging the single clip located at the front, center of the panel. (See Figure B)
