Using Contacts

  • To view your contacts, from the start screen, tap the People tile. Tap the name of the contact you wish to view.
  • To create a new contact, from the start screen, tap the People tile. Tap the icon. Tap name. In the First name field, enter the first name. Tap the Surname field. Enter the surname. To add further details, tap the desired fields and enter the details. To save the contact name details, tap the icon. Tap phone. Enter the contact's phone number. Tap the Phone number type field. Tap the desired phone number type, i.e. mobile. Tap the icon. To add further details to your contact, repeat the previous procedures. When you are finished, tap the icon to save.
  • To change your contact number to NZ country code +64, long press the 0/+ key followed by 64 and then remove the first 0 from the dialling code. The number will read +64 27 123 4567 or +64 9 123 4567.

Using voice command

Pre-requisite: You must set up a speech language before you voice your command. To do so, go to Apps list>Settings>Speech. You can call a contact from any view using a voice command:

  • In any view, tap and hold the logo/start key. Tap speak. Say "Call" or "Text" followed by the contact's name.
  • You can also add any contact's details to the start screen for quick access. From the start screen, tap People tile.
    Tap the name of the contact you wish to add to the start screen. Tap the icon.

Using Messaging – Text, Voicemail and Email

To send a text message:

  • From the start screen, tap the Messaging tile. Tap the icon. Enter the recipient's phone number or tap the icon to select a contact from your contacts list. Tap the type a text message field and enter your message. If you wish to add an attachment, tap the icon. Tap the desired attachment type, i.e. picture. Tap the album where the picture is located, i.e. Camera Roll. Tap the desired image. Once you are finished, tap the icon to send.

To check your voicemail:

  • From the start screen, tap Telecom NZ. Tap the icon. If your phone asks for a password, enter it.
    A personal greeting makes all the difference and means people are more likely to leave a message. Here is a personal greeting anyone can use: Hi, this is <your name>. I'm not available right now, but if you leave your name, number and a brief message I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

To set-up email on your mobile for the first time:

  • From the start screen, tap the Add An Account tile. Tap the desired email account you wish to add. For Microsoft Outlook Exchange, tap Outlook. Tap the Email address field and enter the e-mail address. Tap the Password field and enter the password. Tap sign in. Check that the Username details are accurate and if not, tap the Username field and enter the username details. Swipe to and tap the Domain field. Enter the domain details. Tap sign in.
  • To set up further accounts, from the start screen swipe left to view the Apps list. Tap Settings. Tap email+accounts. Tap add an account and repeat the above steps according to your desired options.

Changing your Profile

Profiles are used to change your mobile phone settings for different situations:

  • To quickly silence your mobile and switch it to vibrate mode, press and hold theVolume key down until you see 00/30 appear at the top left of the screen.
  • To customise your profile, swipe left to access the Apps list. Tap Settings. Tap ringtones+sounds. Tap the Ringer status bar so it switches to your desired preference i.e On. Tap the Vibrate status bar so it switches to your desired preference i.e. On. Tap the Ringtone field and tap the desired tone. Tap the New text or IM field and tap the desired tone. Tap the New voicemail field and tap the desired tone. Tap the New email field and tap the desired tone. Under Play a sound for, ensure the checkboxes are ticked for those functions you wish a sound to play for i.e. Reminders. Once finished, tap the icon.
  • To change the theme (font and icon colours), swipe left to open theApps list. Tap Settings. Tap theme. Tap the Background and/ or Accent colour fields and tap to select the desired options.
  • To further customise your phone, tap the desired menu i.e.lock screen, and tap the desired options. i.e. Tap the Background field, tap the desired option, i.e. Bing.

Mobile Internet and personalisation

  • To access the Internet, from the start screen, tap theInternet Explorer tile. If prompted, tap Recommended.
  • To set up social networking sites, from the start screen swipe left to view theApps list. Tap Settings. Tap email+accounts. Tap add an account. Tap the desired account, i.e. Facebook. Tap the Email address field and enter your email address. Tap the Password field and enter your password details. Tap sign in.
  • To browse the Internet, from the start screen, tapInternet Explorer. Tap the key. If prompted, tap allow. Tap the search the web field and write your search keywords or phrase. To complete the search, tap the term if it appears automatically, or tap the Enter key on the virtual keyboard.

Using Bluetooth®

Bluetooth offers you fast reliable wireless connectivity over short distances (up to 10 metres).

  • To create a Bluetooth connection you have to activate Bluetooth first. From the start screen, swipe left to view the Apps list. Tap Settings. Tap Bluetooth. Tap the Bluetooth status bar and ensure it is set to On. Bluetooth is now activated.

Once Bluetooth is activated you can connect to other Bluetooth devices:

If the device you wish to pair with is a PC:
Under the Bluetooth Settings menu, tap the desired Bluetooth device you wish to pair with. In the Enter your PIN to connect field, enter your PIN number. Tap done. Enter the PIN number on the device you wish to pair with. The other device may be prompted to confirm the connection. Follow the prompts.

If the device you wish to pair with is another mobile device:
Under the Bluetooth Settings menu, tap the desired Bluetooth device you wish to pair with. When prompted, tap Pair. The other mobile device will be asked to confirm the connection. Tap OK to confirm the connection.

Power Management

To extend the battery life of your mobile, follow these simple steps:

  • Decrease the brightness of the screen. From the start screen, swipe left to view the Apps list. Tap Settings. Tap brightness. Tap the Automatically adjust status bar and ensure it is set to Off. Tap the Level field. Tap low.
  • Set your phone to Battery Saver mode. From the start screen, swipe left to view the Apps list. Tap Settings. Tap battery saver. Ensure the Battery Saver slider bar is set to On.
  • Alternatively, set the phone so Battery Saver mode is automatically turned on when the battery is low. From the start screen, swipe left to view the Apps list. Tap Settings. Tap battery saver. Tap advanced. Ensure the When battery is low checkbox is ticked.
  • Set Bluetooth to off when not in use.
  • Set Wi-Fi to off when not in use.
  • Set location to off when not in use.
