OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

MEASURING POINTS

In the anus (rectal)
Carefully insert the measuring tip 1–2 cm into the anus.
Minimum measuring time: 10 seconds.

In the mouth (oral/sublingual)
For at least 10 minutes before taking the measurement, do not consume any hot or cold food and drink. Insert the measuring tip into one of the two heat pockets under the tongue to the left or right of the tongue root. Close your mouth and breathe softly through your nose.
Minimum measuring time: 20 seconds.

Under the arm (axillary)
The skin must be completely dry. Place the tip under the arm, so that it is fully in contact with the skin. The thermometer should be at right angles to the body. Place the arm across the chest, so that the tip is tightly covered. Minimum measurement time: 3 minutes.

MEASURING THE TEMPERATURE

Press the on/off button to switch on the thermometer. A short signal tone confirms that the thermometer is switched on. At the same time, all signals on the display are illuminated as a visual functionality check. An internal test value of 36.5°C is then displayed and the thermometer switches to measuring mode. Insert the thermometer at the relevant measuring site. During the measurement, the flashing „°C" symbol indicates the current temperature on the display. If the temperature increase is less than 0.1°C within 4 seconds, a signal tone will sound. During rectal measurements, the signal tone indicates the approximate final temperature; the measurement changes only marginally after this point. By contrast, the minimum measuring time must be complied with for oral and axillary measurements. At temperatures below 37.5°C, the normal signal tone will sound (4 long, even tones). At temperatures of 37.5°C and higher, the fever alarm will sound (24 short tones in sets of three). Read out the measurement. The thermometer switches off automatically after approximately 10 minutes. You can also switch off the device before this by pressing the on/off button. The measured temperature is saved until the next measurement.

RETRIEVING THE LAST MEASUREMENT

With the thermometer switched off, press and hold the on/off button for approximately 2 seconds. The last measurement is displayed together with a small "M" symbol (M = memory). When the on/off button is released, an internal test value of 36.5°C is displayed and the thermometer switches to measuring mode.

CLASSIFYING THE MEASUREMENTS

37.5°C to 37.9°C: increased temperature
38.0°C to 38.9°C: moderate fever
39.0°C and higher: high fever
Rectal temperature measurements are generally 0.5°C higher and axillary temperature measurements are 0.5°C lower than temperatures measured orally.

It is essential to consult a doctor in cases of high fever!

REPLACING THE BATTERY

If the symbol appears after all signals have been illuminated in the functionality check, a battery replacement is required.

  • Pull out the battery compartment cover from the thermometer.
  • Carefully pull out the battery holder approximately 1 cm out of the housing.
  • Use a non-metallic object to slide the battery out of the holder.
  • Insert a new battery (type LR41 or SR41; 1.55 V) with the + symbol facing upwards.
  • Slide the battery holder back into the housing and insert the battery compartment cover again. Make sure that the seal is not damaged or displaced.

ERROR MESSAGES

Measured temperature is below 32.0°C and is therefore outside of the measuring range
Measured temperature is above 42.9°C and is therefore outside of the measuring range
Electronic fault. If the fault occurs again, contact the UEBE customer service centre.

METROLOGICAL INSPECTION

Generally, a metrological inspection is recommended every 2 years. Professional users in Germany must comply with the German Medical Device Operator Ordinance (Medizinprodukte-Betreiberverordnung). The inspection can be performed either by UEBE Medical GmbH, an authority responsible for metrology or an authorised maintenance service. Please refer to your national regulations.

CLEANING

Clean the thermometer before and after each use using a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol diluted with water or cold soapy water. The device can be immersed in water or a disinfectant solution for cleaning purposes. The maximum immersion time is 30 minutes! Do not sterilise the thermometer by boiling it, using gas or in a steam autoclave.
