  • Page 3 Introduction The Steadicam G-70x ® Based on the industry leading G-70x with its patented GEO spring geometry, the new G-70x offers even more premium performance and elevated function than ever before. Powered by the same silent, corrosion- resistant and rugged titanium springs as before, but wrapped in updated, low-profile arm links, the new arm is easier to work with all day, every day.

  • Page 5 Configure the arm for your operating side Before getting started, let’s take a minute to ensure the socket is set to your operating side, and to a baseline side-to-side thread. To accommodate both regular and goofy operators, as well as other mounting methods, the two mating parts held by the quick release pin can fit together in two ways.
  • Page 6 NEW socket setup The brand new tools-free socket is not only more convenient because it doesn’t require tools to set your side-to-side angle, but it’s also stronger and safer because it doesn’t rely on threaded rod-ends. This new socket is compatible with previous arms, and the G-70X is backwards compatible with the original G-series socket block (078-2078) utilizing rod-ends.
  • Page 7 Lift & Ride concepts Remember these THREE goals when adjusting a G-series arm: 1. We want both arm segments to “float” at the same angle. This is true of all arms. Default is 5-10˚ above horizontal, but this angle can be varied up or down 30˚ or more as needed by the shot. 2.
  • Page 8 Initial Ride setting and Lift adjustment Whenever possible, preset Ride close to the desired level of Iso-Elasticity in both arm segments before picking up the sled and adjusting Lift. Because the RIDE knob can only be turned when the arm segment is at its highest, unloaded position, it is easiest to make large adjustments before you pick up the sled.
  • Page 9 Fine tune the Ride With the arm Lift set, we micro-adjust our Ride setting from before. If we preset too much Iso-Elasticity, the arm segments will “hang up” at the upper or lower extremes of boom travel. But if we dialed in too little Iso- Elasticity, the arm will be too bouncy and hard to boom all the way up and down.
  • Page 10 You may need to decrease the Ride setting in both arm segments a turn or two for the arm segments to track together. TIP: for additional information on optimizing Ride, see The Steadicam Operator’s Handbook, or visit Tiffen.com for upcoming instructional videos.
  • Page 11 Lift & Ride tips & tricks Despite being so customizable, G-Series arms are very forgiving of less than perfect adjustment of Lift or Ride, so you can get that shot RIGHT NOW, and fine tune your arm’s behavior when you have a minute. •...

Swapping arm posts is easy. All posts are locked in the double-bearing supported, drag-adjustable mount at the top end block. +1.125 in (+28mm) +0.25 in (+6mm)
  • Page 13 Other mounting methods We firmly believe the Exovest is your best choice for wearing your Steadicam (we’re definitely biased), ™ but there are many other mounting methods you may use with the G-70x . From the Tiffen ULTRA vest, Tiffen X3 3rd arm segment on an Exovest or other back-mounted vests, to vehicle mounts, dollies, Segways or rickshaws;...
  • Page 14 Adding the arm grips The included arm grips are optional, but they’re easy to install and improve handling the arm in cold or wet conditions. The grips precisely match the shape of the new arm links, and utilize a high performance adhesive, so take a moment to test fit and read the directions below before sticking them on.
