    Please read and understand thoroughly all manuals and information provided. If in doubt consult Lotus Motorsport. FACTORY SHAKEDOWN TEST Your car will have undergone a shakedown test at Lotus, Hethel. This is an installation process to ensure that all systems operate correctly and that any faults can be detected and rectified prior to delivery.

    1.4 REAR WING The Lotus 3-Eleven has a rear wing with provision for adjustment of the angle of incidence. The rear wing works in conjunction with the rest of the body, the front splitter and the rear diffuser to produce downforce. This is the effect the air has on the moving vehicle.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 TOWING STRUT/ HOOK Front and rear tow straps are fitted as standard to this vehicle. The front towing eye is a steel machined component designed to MSA specifications. The rear is a MSA compliant fabric tow strap that is constructed from pliable webbing with a 5000kg load rate and featuring a 1/2 inch (13mm) diameter bolt hole.

There are comprehensive circuit diagrams contained within the USB. These are located within the folder named ‘Electrical’.

    INSTRUMENTS, TELL TALES, & DISPLAYS The Lotus 3-Eleven is fitted with a 800 x 480, anti-aliased graphics Colour TFT LCD anti-reflective screen. It has the possibility to display 48 user-defined scrollable message lines with programmable overrides and up to 50 display pages.

The below is an overview of how to set the gear potentiometer settings, review diagnostics or access the GCU data logger.

This allows very high rate logging during shift events and low rate logging out with a shift event. Certain engine parameters are also logged concurrently to aid diagnosis or optimisation of the shift system.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 1.34.8 OVER VOLT UNDER VOLT REGULATOR The external under and over voltage protector is used to secure ‘super B’ batteries against under and over voltages with the lowest possible stand-by current. Boot Before the BDB-250 becomes operational it has to determine if a 12V or a 24V system is connected. This means that after connecting the BDB-250, the first thing it does is wait a second before doing anything else.

    CHASSIS 1.35 CHASSIS, SUBFRAMES The chassis of the Lotus Motorsport 3-Eleven is bespoke and not interchangeable with the OE version. It is constructed primarily from aluminium alloy extrusions and formed alloy sheet, with the various sections bonded together using an epoxy adhesive with secondary drive-in fasteners.

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) is the sole national governing body for four-wheel motor sport in the UK, as recognised by the world governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 SUSPENSION 1.38 FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION, INCL. HUBS Suspension set ups vary from circuit to circuit, driver to driver and track and weather conditions. Teams and drivers should test before races to find an ideal set up for the circumstances. A good base set up is shown on pages 63 and 64. It is essential that geometry is completed at the correct ride height.

The compression damping forces of the ITX damper are not, as in a conventional damper, caused by a pressure drop on the rebound side, but by increased pressure on the compression side.

It is constructed out of a formed cylindrical steel bar that connects to the chassis (front) or rear subframe (rear) at two points, and at the left and right sides of the suspension.     3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 The temptation to over cool the disc should be resisted. The aim is to keep the temperature as stable as possible within the working temperature range. High maximum to low minimum temperature cycles are the enemy of disc life. 1.39.1 BEDDING IN IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE BEDDING IN PROCEDURES ARE PERFORMED ONLY ON A RACETRACK.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 WHEELS & TYRES 1.41 TYRES Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is a track tyre (semi slick tyre) optimized for DRY track use. However, this tyre meets the legal requirements for use on the public highway and open roads of the countries where it is distributed. This tyre passes all the necessary rules and regulations, and legal markings.

If not used for a prolonged period of time, remove the MICHELIN PILOT SPORT CUP 2 tyres (mounted on their wheels) and reduce their pressure to half their normal value to store.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 ENGINE 1.47 RUNNING IN The power train is built to close tolerances using modern technology and requires little in the way of running in (or bedding-in). Nevertheless, there are still benefits to be gained by progressive and sympathetic treatment of a new engine and transmission in order to attain optimum efficiency and performance.

    1.51 Engine Limiter Lotus does not recommend running the engine on the limiter. All gearshifts should be performed prior to entering the soft limiter. If geared too short for selected circuits, vehicle speed and therefore engine speed should be reduce to below the limiter.

    Exhaust (Complete System) The customer is expected to notify Lotus Motorsport of running hours/kilometers, type of use and maintenance with the service period. The customer is also expected to clearly label all components returned to Lotus with the relevant vehicle vin number.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 INDUCTION SYSTEMS 1.58 AIRBOXES, TRUNKING & AIR FILTERS This vehicle uses a performance air filter with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor fitted to an aluminium intake tube. The air filter is located in the luggage compartment and is fed air from the ducting located on the rear clamshell. Air Flow All foam air filters need to be oiled prior to use to retain the dust within the filter media.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 FUEL SYSTEM 1.62 FUEL Use only PREMIUM UNLEADED fuel with a minimum octane rating of 98 RON. The minimum standard is the British standard BS7800:2006. Using fuel with a lower octane rating will cause knocking (pre-ignition), which, if severe, can cause serious engine damage.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 1.65 SERVICE SCHEDULE Your fuel cell should be serviced at least once a year. Most importantly, the bladder should be inspected for any fuel leaks or blistering. Any damage or broken components should be repaired or replaced before use. All fuel cells should be static ground during refueling and during use on a track.

    The quick release fuel drain has been added to permit accurate measurements of fuel quantity used. This is situated on the fuel rail connector block on the rear cylinder head (same location as fuel pressure sensor). The use of Lotus Techcentre will be required to activate the fuel pump.

    The vehicle comprises a bespoke 3-2-1 exhaust system comprising new primaries, secondary’s, and repackable silencer. Specific repacking material is available from Lotus Motorsport. A catalytic converter is included within the exhaust silencer. The silencer is suspended on rubber isolators which should be replaced regularly.

    A threaded, 108 kPa (15 psi) pressure cap is fitted to the neck of the tank. A lower temperature thermostat is available directly from Lotus Motorsport. 1.76 Water Pump Assembly For high humidity/temperature climates use a lower flow water impeller is recommended.

    1.78.1 BAFFLED SUMP This vehicle is fitted with a bespoke Lotus designed baffled sump in order to reduce the effects of oil surge experienced during high G force corners. This operates by restricting the movement of the oil within the sump to limit the oil picks exposure to not being immersed in oil thus not drawing air instead and keeping the engine internal bearings lubricated.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 1.79 OIL CONSUMPTION NOTE: THE OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE CLOSELY CONTROLLED AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE OIL LEVEL BE ALLOWED TO GO BELOW THE MINIMUM LEVEL. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY AT THE MAXIMUM MARK.

    This vehicle uses a 7.25” normal duty, I drive clutch. This is a new asymmetric design, which offers 10% reduction in weight and increased stiffness compared to previous clutches used by Lotus Motorsport. The clutch comprises a new drive system, featuring drive tenons, which locate into internal jaws of the lugs.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 1.91 SLAVE CYLINDER A series concentric slave cylinder which is lightweight, hydraulically self-contained unit with high temperature seals is installed. All sealing surfaces are protected by a hard wearing / low friction coating which helps prolong seal life. It is the reduced length/stroke version.

    The graph plots the bending safety factors for the main shaft gear of each ratio, as this is generally the most critical measure used to compare ratio durability. There are no ratios which Lotus Motorsport would not recommend, otherwise they would not be in the range however, if a customer was choosing between two very close ratios, then the ratings are provided to try and encourage them to choose a lower tooth count ratio where possible, which inherently has a stronger rating.

    A Belleville spring is used to set the pre-load, and the opportunity exists to externally adjust the differential pre-load when mounted in the car by means of an adjuster shaft – consult Lotus Motorsport, as this requires a modification to the gearbox by Xtrac.

    WHEN THE GEARBOX IS NEW IT REQUIRES A BESPOKE 50 KM PRE-RUN IN PERIOD. AT 50KM THE GEAR OIL NEEDS DRAINED AND REPLACED, AND THE FILTER AND MAGNET CLEANED. LOTUS MOTORSPORT WILL NOT CARRY OUT THIS ACTIVITY AS PART OF THE SHAKEDOWN PROCEDURE. IT IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SO.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 FLUIDS CHANGE PROCEDURES ENGINE OIL CHANGE The engine oil hex head drain plug is located in the base of the sump. Remove the plugs to drain the sump after a run when the oil is warm and the impurities are still held in suspension. Allow the oil to drain completely before cleaning the drain plugs, fitting new sealing rings, and tightening securely.
  • Page 68 3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 If access to the dipstick is required when the engine is hot, be aware of many hot surfaces including the ducting adjacent to the dipstick itself. Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent burn injuries. Remove the engine access cover, withdraw the dipstick, and wipe with a paper towel. Replace the dipstick, if necessary feeding the flexible stem into the tube using the towel, before pressing firmly to ensure that the handle is fully seated.

  • Page 70 3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 Using a 5910 sealant gun apply a 3 to 4mm bead around the sump pan mounting flange. Reuse the original mounting bolts to bolt the sump pan back into position. Torque evenly to 10Nm ensuring that the face is not distorted.

    3ELEVEN SUPPLEMENTARY MANUAL V2 -26JUL16 Check for oil leaks with the engine running. Stop the engine when fully warm and re-check oil level. Refill with the recommended lubricant via the oil filler on the camshaft cover, to the top mark on the dipstick, allowing several minutes for the oil to drain through to the sump before checking the level.

    ABS unit down the hydraulic lines. Finish by closing each nipple with the pedal down. 3. Repeat step (1) to purge each calliper feed line in turn. 4. Rememer that the ABS pump requires bleed and this is done through Lotus Techcentre. Follow the on screen instructions. BRAKE FLUID CHECK & CHANGE Before checking the brake fluid level, ensure that the car is parked on a level surface, and open the front body access panel.

Whilst this automatic process is taking place (with all 4 caliper nipples open), gently cycle the brake pedal up and down whilst keeping the reservoir topped up, to move any air bubbles displaced from the ABS unit down the hydraulic lines.
