This guide contains the information required to install polyethylene Ecoflo Biofilters certified under NQ Standard
3680-910 for advanced secondary treatment (Class III). The installation must be performed by an installer trained
by Premier Tech Water and Environment. To obtain a list of these installers, call our Customer Service
Department at 1 800 632-6356.
For details on the installation of a tertiary treatment system with disinfection (Class V), such as the Disinfection
Filter (FDi) and the UV Disinfection Unit (DiUV Self-cleaning), consult the Installation Guides for these products

  • Page 3 Using a septic tank that is larger than the minimum requirements helps improve its pre-treatment performance. A ® concrete or a polyethylene septic tank can be used when installing an Ecoflo Biofilter. Premier Tech Water and Environment provides several polyethylene septic tank models (PST-280, PST-340, PST- 390, PST-440, PST-500 and PST-660), all of which are certified under BNQ Standard 3680-905 and equipped with an effluent filter respecting the same standard.

The letters and ® the numbers associated with the Ecoflo Biofilter specify the model's characteristics, as presented in the following table with model STB-570-PR-DiUV as reference: STB refers to the discharge method ST = Open or perforated bottom (infiltration under the biofilter) STB = Watertight bottom (gravity or pumped discharge)

    3.3 Installation conditions 3.3.1 Septic Tank All prefabricated septic tanks must be certified under BNQ Standard 3680-905 and must be equipped with an effluent filter respecting the same standard.   • Page 8 4.1.3 Soil thickness The vertical distance between the absorption bed and the groundwater table or any impermeable layer (rock or clay) must comply with the regulations in effect. For high permeability soil (< 4 min/cm), the natural soil must be at least 600 mm (24") thick.

    6. Installation Sequence NOTE: The installer is responsible for the implementation of safety measures throughout the installation (i.e. wearing a hard hat, gloves, boots, safety glasses, mask, etc). ® For a Disinfection Filter (FDi) installation with the polyethylene Ecoflo Biofilter, please consult the FDi’s Installation Guide which can be found at ptzone.premiertechaqua.com in order to take into account the installation steps of the FDi before executing the installation of the biofilter.
  • Page 12 6.2 Extension pipe and membrane installation (STB models) To ensure a maximum of stability, install the six (6) pipe extensions on the existing pipes assembled on the shell. Lay the membrane on the extension pipes on both sides of the shell. Spread and level the fill material over and under the membranes.
  • Page 13 • Glue in place the elbow assembly on the water inlet pipe. Align marks to ensure that the elbow assembly is correctly positioned. Once in place the inlet pipe must be centered with the tipping bucket. The elbow assembly is packaged in the components box.
  • Page 14 Biofilters which cannot be fed by gravity or of three Ecoflo Biofilters, a pumping station combined with a pressurized flow divider is required. Premier Tech Aqua offers several pressurized flow dividers. For more information on Premier Tech Aqua’s pressurized flow divider, consult the Peripherals Section at ptzone.premiertechqua.com.
  • Page 15 6.6 Connecting the pumped discharge (models with integrated pump) The effluent pipe from the model with integrated pump must be connected to the treated effluent disposal method (absorption bed, watercourse, tertiary treatment, etc.) using a flexible 25 mm (1") Ø pipe. This pipe must be capable to withstand a minimal pressure of 700 kPa (100 PSI) and must also be compatible with underground applications.
  • Page 16 CAUTION: When there is a possibility of surface water accumulating on the lot, a drain pipe must be installed to evacuate the excess water and prevent any risk of infiltration. 6.7 Final backfill of the shell 300 mm (12") Complete the backfill. The backfill material must be 50 mm (2") placed with care and not dumped (do not compact with bulldozer).

The customer must keep the white copy, give the yellow copy to the municipality, and send the pink copy to Premier Tech Aqua.
