Chapter 2: Installation
The X–COM–2 connects directly to a PC/104 connector.
COM port designations
The X–COM–2 has two COM ports, designated COMA and COMB in this
Reference Manual. The user will have to manually go into the operating
system to add these COM ports and configure them with a COM port number
(i.e., COM1 and COM2) before the system will recognize them. Refer to page
14 for information on configuring your software.
J1 and J3 are associated with COMA and have RS–422/485 and RS–232
interfaces respectively. J2 and J4 are associated with COMB and have RS–
422/485 and RS–232 interfaces respectively. However, only one interface per
COM port can be used at a time. Otherwise, COMA can be RS–232 or RS–
422 but not both. COMB can be RS–485 or RS–232 but not both.
Component locations and dimensions
Figure 2–1 shows the X–COM–2 component diagram. Figure 2–2 shows the
X–COM–2 dimensions, in inches and millimeters. Table 2–1 lists the
connectors on the X–COM–2. Table 2–2 lists the switches.
The X–COM–2 card contains static-sensitive CMOS components.
The card is most susceptible to damage when it is plugged into
another card. The X–COM–2 card becomes charged by the user,
and the static discharges to the system. To avoid damaging
your card and its components:
Ground yourself before handling the card
Disconnect power before removing or inserting the card.
