Getting to know your computer Locating hardware To find out what hardware is installed on your computer: Type device manager in the taskbar search box, and then select the Device Manager app. ▲ A list displays all the devices installed on your computer. For information about system hardware components and the system BIOS version number, press fn+esc (select products only).
Find out what operating system and version your computer is currently running. Select the Start button, select Settings, select System, and then select About. Go to http://www.hp.com/support. Select Find your product, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Look in the computer box for additional printed details or updates.
Connecting to the Internet (select products only) To connect to a wireless network: NOTE: To set up a wireless local area network (WLAN) and connect to the Internet, you need a broadband modem (either DSL or cable) (purchased separately), high-speed Internet service purchased from an Internet service provider, and a wireless router (purchased separately).
Shutting down (turning off) the computer CAUTION: Unsaved information is lost when the computer shuts down. Be sure to save your work before shutting down the computer. The Shut down command closes all open programs, including the operating system, and then turns off the display and computer.

Using HP Recovery media to recover You can use HP Recovery media to recover the original system. This method can be used if your system does not have an HP Recovery partition or if the hard drive is not working properly.

Changing the computer boot order If your computer does not restart in HP Recovery Manager, you can change the computer boot order, which is the order of devices listed in BIOS where the computer looks for startup information. You can change the selection to an optical drive or a USB flash drive.

Removing the HP Recovery partition (select products only) HP Recovery Manager software allows you to remove the HP Recovery partition to free up hard drive space. IMPORTANT: After you remove the HP Recovery partition, you will not be able to perform System Recovery or create HP recovery media from the HP Recovery partition.
