DURApulse GS30 I/O, Encoder, and BPS Card Installation Guide
Encoder, I/O, and BPS Card Installation
For the GS30 Encoder, I/O, and BPS cards, follow the steps in this guide to install to the GS30 drive in
position 1. Encoder and I/O cards must be in position 1. The BPS card can be in either position 1 or position
2. The option card kit includes both a long cable and a direct plug-in connector. If you are also installing a
communication card, that card will be installed to position 2.

Things you'll need (most of this should have come with your encoder, I/O, or BPS card):
• Encoder, I/O, or BPS card to be installed
• Support frame (for position 1)
• Accessory card to drive connector (all kits), long connector cable (BPS kit)
• Grounding wire (Encoder and BPS only)
• Mounting screw
• Screwdriver
Position 1 Installation
Follow the steps below to install your card in position 1. If you are installing a communication card to position 2, make sure you connect the communication card
connection cable to the drive before installing the position 1 support frame.
NOTE: Ensure all control board and power wires are terminated before installing the option card. Once the option card is installed, there
is no access to the control terminals (all drives), and no access to power terminals on frames A-D.
NOTE: If you are installing to a Frame E-I drive, the instructions are the same but the drive and position 1 location will look a little
different. Refer to the illustration 'Mounting Positions for Frames E-I' for a visual.
1) Disconnect power to the drive and wait until the capacitors are fully drained (at least 5 minutes).
2) Remove the front cover of the drive.

3) Mount the card connector to the drive control board.
4) The encoder and BPS cards must be grounded before wiring. A ground terminal wire is included with the card. The A side of the ground terminal connects to the PE on
the drive as indicated by the red circles below. The B side of the ground terminal connects to the green terminal block labeled PE on the option card. Connect the wire
then plug the terminal block back into the option card. Note, for E-I frames, snip the "A" ring of the ground terminal wire to fit the connector around the ground screw.

5) Line up the two large clips of the option card support frame as shown below,
then press the bracket into the slots. Route the control board connector cable
(if used) towards the bottom of the drive.
7) Fasten the screw to fix the option card firmly in place and torque
approximately 4-6 kg-cm (3.5-5.2 in-lb)(0.39-0.59 N·m).

as shown below, then press the option card into the support frame until the
clips snap into place and the connector is firmly seated.
