DURApulse GS30 Ethernet Comm Card Installation Guide
Communication Card Installation
For the GS30A-CM-EIP1 or GS30A-CM-EIP2 card, follow the steps in this guide to install to the GS30 drive in
position 1 or position 2. For ease of control wiring, mounting the EIP card in position 2 allows easier access to
the terminal blocks, but will block the LED indicator lights.
Installing a Communication Card in a GS30 Drive
Before starting, determine if the communication card needs to be installed in position 1 or position 2. For all frames, position 1 mounts
the card inside the drive and Comm LED status is visible on the drive exterior. For Frames A-D, position 2 mounts the card externally using
a mounting cover (included with your card) that allows for easy access to the wiring section of the drive but covers the Comm LEDs. For
Frames E-I, position 2 is integrated into the drive front panel and the external mounting cover is not required. If an Encoder or I/O card is
installed, the Comm card must be installed in position 2.

Things you'll need (most of this will come with your communication card):
• Communication card to be installed
• Support frame (Position 1) or external mounting cover (Position 2)
• Removable green terminal block
• Grounding wire
• Mounting screw
• Small phillips and straight screwdriver
• Connection cable (choose short or long cable per table):

Position 1 Installation
Follow the steps below to install the EIP card in position 1. If you are installing the EIP card to position 2 and installing another accessory card in position 1, make sure
you connect the EIP card cable to the drive before installing the position 1 support frame.
NOTE: Ensure all control board and power wires are terminated before installing the position 1 support frame. Once the support frame is
installed, there is no access to the control terminals on all drives, and no access to the power terminals on frames A–D.
1) Disconnect power to the drive and wait until the capacitors are fully drained (at least 5 minutes).
2) Remove the front cover of the drive.

3) Remove the plug terminal cover from the drive control board. A small
screwdriver can be used to pry the cover from the plug.

4) The communication card must be grounded before wiring. A ground terminal wire is included with the card. The A side of the ground terminal connects to the PE on the
drive as indicated by the red circles below. The B side of the ground terminal connects to the green removeable terminal block labeled PE on the option card. Connect
the wire then plug the terminal block back into the option card. Note, for E-I frames, snip the "A" ring of the ground terminal wire to fit the connector around the ground
screw.

5) Plug each end of the control board connector cable included with the option card into the appropriate slot on the card and the drive. Apply enough pressure to ensure
the connector is properly locked in place.
6) Line up the two large clips of the option card support frame as shown below,
then press the bracket into the slots. Route the control board connector cable
towards the bottom of the drive.
8) Fasten the screw to fix the option card firmly in place and torque
approximately 4-6 kg-cm (3.5-5.2 in-lb)(0.39-0.59 N·m).
