PREPARATION FOFI USE
POWEFI SOURCES
You can power the CB from one of the
following three sources:
• Internal batteries
• Your vehicle's battery
(using an
optional DC adapter)
• A standard AC outlet
(using an
optional AC adapter)
Installing or Replacing
Batteries
Your CB uses either eight alkaline or
standard batteries, or ten nickel-cad-
mium batteries. For longest operation
and best performance, we recommend
alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat.
No. 23-552) or rechargeable nickel-
cadmium batteries (Cat. No. 23-125).
If the BATT LOW indicator appears
when you press [LIGHT/BATT], you
need to replace or recharge your CB's
batteries.
Caution: Your CB has a jack for
recharging nickel-cadmium batteries
while they are inside the CB. However,
you must not connect an adapter to
this jack when non-rechargeable
batteries are in the CB. Be sure to `
read "Important Information About
External Adapters" and ``Charging
Nickel-Cadmium Batteries."

1. Bemove the battery compartment
cover by sliding it in the direction
of the arrow.

2. Plemove old batteries, as neces-
sary. Then, install either eight non-
rechargeable batteries and the two
supplied dummy batteries or ten
nickel-cadmium batteries.
Be sure to observe proper polarity
(+ and -) as marked on the bat-
tery installation' label. Trying to
operate the CB with batteries im-
properly installed (incorrect po-
larity) can damage your CB.
Note: Always replace all the bat-
teries. Never mix new and old bat-
teries.
3. Beplace the battery compartment
Cover.
Important lnformatioh About
External Adapters
Your CB
has two
external
power
lacks-PWPl and CHG. It is important
that you understand the purpose of
each jack before you connect any
adapter to the CB. Improper use of the
jacks can damage the CB and the
power adapter.
The PWPl jack powers the CB and dis-
connects the internal batteries. You can
use this jack with an external power
source regardless of the type of batter-
ies you install.
The CHG jack applies power to the bat-
teries to charge them.
Warnings:
• Use the CHG jack only when you
have installed rechargeable nickel-
cadmium batteries and use only a
Padio Shack battery charger for
walkie talkies
(Cat.
No.
21-516)
with this jack.
'\
• lf you use another power adapter
to charge the batteries, y.ou could
damage your CB.
• Never use the CHG jack with non-
rechargeable batteries. If you at-
tempt to recharge non-recharge-
able batteries, they become very
hot and could explode.
Using an AC Power Source
To power the CB from AC power you
need to use Badio Shack's 12-volt
power supply (Cat. No. 22-120).
Caution:
Using any other adapter
could damage your CB or the adapter.
1. Make a power cable, using a 3.5
mm power connector plug, such
as Padio Shack Cat. No. 274-1571.
Be sure to wire the plug with the tip
positive.
2. Connect the leads from the plug to
the
+
and - terminals on the
power supply.
3. Turn on the power supply and use
a voltmeter to ensure that you have
correctly wired the plug with the tip
positive. Then, turn off the power
supply.
4. Insert the plug into the CB's PWPl
jack.
Caution:
Never
connect
this
adapter to the CB's CHG jack.
5. Turn on the power supply.
6. When you finish using AC power,
turn off the power supply. Then,
disconnect the plug from the PWR
jack.
