FEATURES
@ The AN-1 can receive wide ragne bands: LW (long wave), MW
(standard broadcast) and SW (short wave) stations.
@ A low noise and interference-reducing FET is used in the built-in
RF amplifier.
@ The. AN-1 can operate on two different power sources, batteries
and house current.
@ The compact

lightweight
design allows the antenna
to
easily be assembled and installed with a screwdriver or a coin.
PRECAUTIONS
@ Do not open the casing of the antenna controller. Refer servicing
to qualified personnel only.
@ Operate the set only on 9V dc.
For ac operation, use the ac power adaptor recommended for this
set. Do not use any other ac power adaptor.
@ Should
any liquid or solid object fall into the set, remove
the
batteries and disconnect
the ac power adaptor, and have the set
checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
@ In a strong wind, fold the antenna or remove the antenna from
the holder.
@ When
there is thunder,
immediately
remove
the antenna
con-
necting cord from the INPUT jack on the antenna controller.
If you have any question or problem concerning your set, please
consult the nearest Sony dealer.

ANTENNA INSTALLATION
Use a screwdriver or a coin.
Install the antenna referring to the illustration [2B] on page 3.
Notes on antenna installation
@ Instail the antenna
as high as possible but not higher than
lighting rods, nearby high buildings, or tall trees.
® Do not install the antenna near the following:
— a power transmission line or a high voltage line
— electric equipment or machines which cause noise
— an antenna for television
—aroad with heavy traffic
— a wall of a building

© Attaching to a wall (Use wood screws or screws for concrete

Notes
@ Take plenty of care when installing the antenna on a high place.
Be careful not to drop the parts. Be sure to install the antenna and
the antenna holder firmly.
@ Do not install the coaxial cable near the fluorescent light or the
television.
POWER SOURCES OF THE ANTENNA
CONTROLLER
BATTERIES
Install 6 batteries
IEC designation
R6 (size AA) with the correct
polarity. Refer to the illustration [3] on page 18.
@ The set cannot be operated on the internal batteries when the ac
power adaptor is connected to the set.
@ When the set is not to be used for a long period of time or is to be
operated extensively on other power sources, remove the batteries
to avoid set damage caused by battery leakage and corrosion.
Battery life
If the noise apparently appears
or the sensitivity. of the antenna
decreases, the batteries have been exhausted.
Replace all 6 bat-
teries with new ones.
HOUSE CURRENT
Connect the ac power adaptor (optional) designated in thetable on
page 7 into the DC IN 9V jack on the antenna controller. When the
ac power adaptor is connected, the internal batteries (if present)
are automatically disconnected. Refer to the illustration [4] on page
18.
@ Use only an ac power adaptor manufactured by Sony. Polarity of
the plugs of other manufacturers may be different.
