Intended use External switch matrices R&S ZN-Z86 have been designed to be used with a vec- tor network analyzer (VNA) of the families R&S ZNA/ZNB/ZNBT/ZND. They are intended for the development, production and verification of electronic compo- nents and devices in industrial, administrative and laboratory environments.

Option concept R&S ZN-Z86 Depending on the installed options, the R&S ZN-Z86 offers support for 2 or 4 matrix VNA ports and up to 24 matrix test ports. The base unit (order no. 1351.2216K02) implements a 2x6 switch matrix that can connect its two VNA ports to any pair of its test ports.

Instrument configurations Instrument configurations The single function of a switch matrix R&S ZN-Z86/Z86X is to establish RF con- nections between its VNA ports (statically connected to the RF ports of the VNA) and its test ports (statically connected to the DUT or DUTs), applying a passive load match to currently unused ports.

To see the difference between the two optimizations, again consider a DUT with 6 unbalanced ports, connected to a 2-port analyzer via the R&S ZN-Z86 base unit without extension. If all S-parameters shall be measured, at least 6*5/2 succes- sive matrix switching procedures are required (one for each pair of test ports) and the speed optimization would choose one of these minimum solutions.

3.4.6 Trigger functionality R&S ZN-Z86/Z86X allows triggering of the sequenced trigger mode by various events, such as a certain signal on the rear panel going high. This switch matrix supports software triggers and hardware triggers to control the operation of sequenced triggering mode.
