MATERIALS/MANUFACTURING

Your fishing boat is made of Ram-X.
Its great flexibility offers exceptional shock resistance. This flexibility increases with heat or with the craft's prolonged exposure to the sun but may also slightly warp the hull. The warping disappears when the hull cools and never affects the craft's performance.

Ram-X is a superior material that was developed and registered in 1978. It quickly became the benchmark of quality in the industry thanks to its shock resistance and ability to regain its initial shape following an impact. Widely hailed by consumers, Ram-X is a step above other materials used in the industry.

ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT

  • There is a capacity sticker on every fishing boat. These capacity ratings should be respected at all times for your safety and security.
  • Sturdy polystyrene foam blocks are located between the hulls for optimum safety. Do not remove them as they are for extra flotation.
  • Some larger fishing boats models have wood reinforcement between the deck and hull, and all boats are reinforced with wood at the bow and stern, to provide you with the support required in a small fishing boat.
  • All fasteners or mounting hardware are either made of stainless steel or anodized aluminum.
  • Always distribute weight evenly when using the fishing boat in order to attain the highest performance.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Do not use handles to secure fishing boat for transport.
  • We recommend a bunk trailer as keel rollers could eventually dent the hull.
  • Respect the load recommendations that the trailer is built for.
  • Your fishing boat is very light so be sure to calculate total weight of motor if applicable plus boat, plus gear, before trailering to avoid any unnecessary bouncing of your boat on larger trailers.
  • Ensure that fishing boat is properly secured to trailer.
  • Remove swivel seats, livewell and battery compartments, and any other accessories before trailering to avoid loss or damage.

PRE-LAUNCH CHECKLIST

  • Transom drain plug securely in place.
  • All other drain plugs are securely in place.
  • All passengers must wear an approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
Insist that children wear a certified Personal Flotation Device that is the right size.
  • Emergency paddle(s) or oar(s) are on board.
  • There is enough fuel aboard.
  • Motor(s) and battery are in good order.
  • No condensation has accumulated between hull and deck.
  • There is an emergency kit (extinguisher, horn, extra fuses, first aid kit, etc.) aboard.
  • All weight is properly distributed.
  • Check that all accessories are properly installed.
  • Ensure that you have one bouyant heaving line at least 15m (49'3'') long and one bailer or manual bilge pump.
  • If fishing boat is equipped with a motor, ensure you have one watertight flashlight or three type A, B or C flares.
  • Ensure that the fishing boat has navigation lights if it is operated after sunset, before sunrise or In periods of restricted visibility.

LAUNCHING PROCEDURE

MAKE SURE THAT

  • All drain plugs (especially the rear drain plug) are securely in place.
  • All straps or tie-downs have been removed.
  • Outboard motor has been tilted upwards before sliding boat off of trailer.
  • You step into the center of the fishing boat when boarding, to assure the fishing boat remains stable (never board by stepping onto the rubrail).
  • Never drag over rocks or sharp objects as this could damage the hull.
  • Always wear a certified Personal Flotation Device (PFD).

MOORING/DOCKING

  • Always moor the fishing boat away from rocks and sharp objects.
  • Make sure the motor is raised.
  • Always moor in water sufficiently deep to avoid damaging the hull.
  • Never moor the fishing boat against a dock that is not equipped with hull-protecting bumpers.

TRIM ADJUSTMENTS

  • Different load conditions may require different trim angle settings. When the drive unit (propeller) is closet to the transom, it will tend to push the bow down when power is applied. If the bow digs excessively into the water, shift some of the weight to the stern and / or move the propeller further away from the transom. On the contrary, if the propeller is too far from the transom, the bow will rise excessively when power is applied. In this case, move some weight forward in the fishing boat and / or bring the propeller closer to the transom.
  • Performance depends on the relation between proper weight distribution, trim angle and engine horsepower.

CAUTION

Some water may accumulate between the hull and deck due to rain, extended wave action, or condensation. This is not a defect. To drain, remove the drain plug (located at the bow under the rubrail) and tip the fishing boat on its bow.

STORAGE

SHORT TERM

  • Insert weather caps in the bow and stern trolling motor sockets.
  • Fishing boat equipped with a navigational stern light; insert a weather cap in the light base.

LONG TERM

  • Pull the fishing boat out of water.
  • Remove the drain plugs and stand the boat on its bow to remove any water accumulation.
  • Remove motor, fuel tank(s), battery, swivel seats, cushions, oars or paddles and all other accessories, empty livewell completely and store these pieces properly
  • Set the boat upside down on a level ground.
  • Cover the fishing boat with a tarp or canvas.
  • Never store the boat on sawhorses or comparable supports.
  • Avoid prolonged, unnecessary exposure to the sun, as this may damage the fishing boat cosmetics.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

The best way to clean your fishing boat is to wash it with lukewarm water and mild soap.
Do not use harsh abrasives. Regular cleaning will keep your boat looking like new.
Never attempt to paint the boat because it will not stick to the hull.

MODELS EQUIPPED WITH AERATOR PUMP (LIVEWELL):

  • The removable pump sits at the bottom of the livewell on a removable filter which in turn is snapped onto the base. To access the pump and clean the filter simply twist the filter ¼ turn counterclockwise. The filter will snap out of the base and expose both the filter and the pump for servicing and cleaning. To reassemble, align filter with base and twist the filter ¼ turn clockwise to snap in place.
  • Check to make sure the butt connectors for the wire that leads to the pump are up and out of water.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Read the following information carefully before using your fishing boat. Failure to follow these warnings and precautions could result in serious injury or death. When using a Pelican fishing boat, you are personally responsible to determine if you have the required skill level to handle the different water and wind conditions. You should use your best judgment as to when and where to use your fishing boat. All users of a Pelican fishing boat agree to assume all risks and accept all responsibilities for any damage or injury, including death, which may result from using or handling a fishing boat.

  1. WEATHER CONDITIONS AND WATER LEVELS
Check the weather and water conditions before you go boating. Your boat is designed to be used only in sheltered waters, lakes, and slow moving streams. It is not designed for whitewater use. Never go boating in severe winds, rain, thunderstorms, choppy waters, strong currents, flood waters, or where tides will seriously affect your ability to steer the boat or return to shore.

  2. PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD)
Always wear a Coast Guard and/or government approved personal floating device (PFD). Before you start boating, read the manufacturer's documentation about your PFD and familiarize yourself with how to properly wear it.

  3. ALCOHOL AND DRUGS
Never use or consume alcohol, drugs or any other mind altering substance that may affect your coordination, judgment or ability to safely and securely operate your fishing boat.

  4. SOUND-SIGNALLING DEVICE
Always have a sound-signalling device with you. The Coast Guard (or other government bodies) requires that boaters be equipped with a sound-signalling device to alert other vessels to their presence. Attach it to your PFD if possible.

  5. NEVERSTAND UP IN THE FISHING BOAT
Never stand up in your fishing boat unless if it is specified in the features that you can stand up in it. Standing up may cause it to capsize. If it capsizes, we recommend staying with your fishing boat as it is far more dangerous to attempt to swim to shore.

  6. SLIPPERY WHEN WET
The fishing boat material is extremely slippery when wet. We recommend wearing slip resistant shoes to increase traction and staying in the center of the fishing boat

  7. HYPOTHERMIA
Dress properly for weather conditions and wear a wetsuit if necessary. Boating accidents in cold water are very dangerous. The loss of body heat due to immersion in cold water (hypothermia) can be fatal. Survival time in cold water can be as little as 15 to 20 minutes.

  8. BE ACCOMPANIED
Always boating with someone. It is preferable to be accompanied in case of an emergency or accident. You should also be aware of the level of physical ability and medical conditions of people paddling with you. Always let someone know about your plan to go boating, including your destination, how long you will be gone, and how many people will be with you.

  9. ALWAYS FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE BODY OF WATER YOU INTEND TO NAVIGATE
Scout unfamiliar water. Find out when boating is permitted, if there are any known hazardous conditions and where to get help quickly in the case of an emergency or accident. Check tidal changes and currents specific to your location. If you decide to go down rapids, scout them in advance and portage your fishing boat to avoid unfamiliar or dangerous areas if necessary.

  10. REGULATIONS AND LAWS
Always follow Coast Guard regulations, boating and boating safety laws, and regulations and orders of various levels of government (including regional). Consult the Coast Guard and government authorities on the proper handling of a fishing boat and the required safety equipment such as lighting and sound alarms.

  11. DRAIN PLUG
Make sure the drain plug is firmly in place before putting your fishing boat in the water.
Empty water that has accumulated due to condensation or seepage once in a while.

  12. MOTOR
Never use a motor larger than rated on capacity tag displayed on the boat. Follow instructions that come with motor. Handle gasoline with extreme care. Avoid sudden maneuvers which could cause loss of control, and capsizing, or passengers to fall from the boat.

  13. WEIGHT CAPACITY
Review the passenger and weight capacity limitations. Ensure the loading will be within these limits. Proper distribution of weight is necessary to ensure proper balance (trim) and performance. Each boat has capacity tag clearly displayed on the craft.

  14. EMERGENCY PADDLE(S)
Always bring an emergency paddle or oar on board.

  15. NEVER let minors use this fishing boat without adult supervision.
