No header here Section 1 – Introduction The PT-353 and PR-353 program audio modules provide data transport of up to 22.5 kHz stereo program audio. These modules plug into Intraplex network access products, combining program audio with other audio, voice, and data traffic for transmission over T1, E1, and other high-speed digital links.

No header here Section 2 – Functional Description This section describes the functionality of both the PT-353 and PR-353 program audio modules. These modules plug into Intraplex Products network access products, which combine the program audio with other audio, voice and data traffic for transmission over T1, E1, IP, and other high-speed digital links.
The yellow indicator light on the power supply also turns on. Note: If service to the module is shut off by setting the OFF switch DOWN (SW3 on the PT-353 module and SW4 on the PR-353 module), the contacts on the module adapter are not active and an alarm is not triggered.
The lock range of the receiver is on the order of 0.01% of the incoming AES source at the PT-353 end. If a signal is applied to the PR-353 module which is outside of the 0.01% clock tolerance, errors occur at the PR-353 module, regardless of the status of the Reed-Solomon FEC. In such situations, the sample rate converter on the PT-353 module (SW6) must be engaged.
2.9.2 Overwriting There are some situations in which the channel status data is overwritten on both the PT-353 and PR- 353 modules. On the PT-353 module, if the incoming channel status information indicates the data word is over 16-bits in length, the channel status word length is overwritten to a 16-bit word length.
3.2 Installation This section gives an installation procedure and guidelines to install the PT-353 and PR-353 modules in local control using the modules’ five switches. Figures 3-1 and 3-3 show the component side of the transmitter and receiver. Before starting the configuration, familiarize yourself with the two modules using the modules themselves or Figures 3-1 through 3-4 to identify the location of the configuration switch banks.
Warning! Make sure the multiplexer is powered down (power is off) before inserting module adapters. Hot insertion of module adapters is not recommended. 3. Set the address for the modules using the SCB ADDRESS switch bank; SW4 on the PT-353 module and SW5 on the PR-353 module. Table 3-1 gives switch setting definitions.
Configuration Switch Banks (PT-353 SW6 and PR-353 SW2) The Configuration switch bank SW6 on the PT-353 module is located directly behind the GAIN switch (SW1). Like the Configuration switch bank SW2 on the PR-353 module, this switch bank allows local configuration of the module.
PT/PR-353 Program Audio Module Installation & Operation Manual 3 – Installation & Operation Version 1.1 Table 3-2. PT-353 Configuration Switch Settings Switch Position Label Setting Description RT_CH Set for one-channel operation (turns right channel off) DOWN Set for two-channel operation...
Two Channel Operation (Position 1 – PT-353 SW6 and PR-353 SW2) Select one- or two-channel operation with the RT CH switch (Position 1 – PT-353 SW6 or PR-353 SW2). When Position 1 on the RT CH switch is UP, one-channel operation is used and when in the DOWN position, two-channel operation is enabled.
T1 multiplexer, CAS signaling must be switched off. 3.3.2.7 SPARE (Position 9 – PT-353 SW6) This switch is a spare at this time. Set this SPARE selection switch (Position 9 – PT-353 SW6) UP. 3.3.2.8 FEC – Forward Error Correction (Position 9 – PR-353 SW2) The PT/PR-353 module uses powerful Reed Solomon FEC to correct for errors that may occur in network transmission.
UP: SP3, SP2, and SP1 (Positions 1-3 – PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3). 3.3.3.2 Starting Time Slot (Positions 4-8 – PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3) The time slot selection switches, PT-353 SW2 and PR-353 SW3, use Positions 4 through 8. For both SW2 and SW3 ●...
The Service On/OFF switch is selected to place the card in service. The card remains offline if the switch is left blank. Set Position 4 UP on the PT-353 SW3 or on the PR-353 SW4 to place the module in service.
Programmable Gain Settings (GAIN) A 16 position rotary switch (SW1) sets the input gain on the PT-353 module and output gain on the PR-353 module. This switch is labeled GAIN, designated SW1 and is set to position B, as a factory default on both the transmitter and receiver.
Site 1 and the DI-B port connected to the transmission line to Site 3. Individual payload channels may connect Sites 1 and 2, 1 and 3, or 2 and 3. Also, a PT-353 transmitter may be installed at Site 1 or Site 3 and be received simultaneously by PR-353 receivers at both of the other sites.
3.6 Impedance Terminal impedance can be set on the PT-353 module using Jumper 3 and Jumper 4. Terminal impedance is used to match impedance between the PT-353 module and the PR-353 module to ensure that input and output are equivalent. Table 3-8 gives the audio input impedance jumpers for the PT- 353 module.
In order to configure the PT-353 and PR-353 modules remotely, you must physically set the module switches to remote control. Perform these steps: 1. Set the REMOTE switch to local control (SW3 Position 3 UP – PT-353 and PR-353 – Table 3-5). 2. Turn service off (SW3 Position 4 DOWN – PT-353 and PR-353).
4.2.2 IntraGuide Sample Configurations IntraGuide software also provides support for numerous Intraplex common modules and channel modules. Figures 4-1 through 4-3 show this information (respectively) for the PT-353 transmitter module: General configuration ●...

P05 = 0 (B00000000); There are five P code registers for the PT-353 and the PR-353 modules. Each is a number from 0 to 255, also represented as an eight-digit binary number (in parentheses). You may use either the decimal or the binary representation for both setting and interpreting the P codes.

The remaining parameter codes correspond to the switch ON or OFF settings. Tables 4-2 and 4-3 give the setting configurations for the PT-353 module and the PR-353 module, respectively. These tables give the only legal values for setting the parameters. Setting any parameter to a value outside its specified range produces an unpredictable result.
For example, :C3:STATUS?:; calls to SCB address number 3. The configuration of the card in the SCB address is returned. There are five S codes each for the PT-353 and PR-353 modules. A typical PT-353 or PR-353 response to a STATUS? query looks like this example:...

1. If you are using loopback testing, use instructions in your multiplexer operation manual to set up the multiplexer loopback. 2. On the PT-353 module, turn on the test tone generator (set the TEST switch on SW6 DOWN). The generator transmits a 1004 Hz tone at -12 dBFS on both channels simultaneously (that corresponds to an external input of +8.0 dBm, assuming the module is at factory calibration, 0...
5 – Testing & Troubleshooting Version 1.1 1. On the PT-353 module, connect the output of an external audio test tone generator to the audio in jack for the channel(s) to be tested. The input jacks accept a three-conductor balanced input.
4. Reset the starting time slot to L or below (for T1 multiplexers, the time slot is the 5-bit switch code +1. SRVC indicator light Service (OFF) switch is turned 1. Turn on the service switch (PT-353, SW3 and PR-353, does not come on. off. SW4 position 4 to UP).
