The llnportance of checking and changing oil at the prescribed intervals cannot overemphasized
particularly under the operating conditions usual l y encountered with most ai r -cooled engine applications .
To obtain maximum service l ife , perform these serv i ces on time .
Oil Change: The oil m us t be changed every 2S operating hours under normal conditions or more fre-
quentl y under dirty, dusty conditions .

a new engi ne , change oil after the first S hour s and then
at 2S hour interval s . Drain oil whi l e hot

After completing draining old oil, reinstall drain plug then remove oil fi l ler cap and add 2 quart
(1.9 lit r es ) of oil to begin with- -che ck the oi l level on t he dipst ick before'adding m or e- -br i ng the
l evel up in the safe ran ge but do not exceed t he full m ar k. Select oil weight and t ype according t o out-
si de temperature .
Oil Type: Use high quality detergent type oi l with
API
Service Class SC, CC, SD or SE . Oil weight
(SAE-vl scos i t y) is se lected according to the anticipated amb i ent temperatures as shown bel ow:
Above 30°F (1°C) : Use SAE -30 when ever avai lab le or SAE lOW-30 or SAE 10W-40 as al t ernat es .
30° t o OOF (1° to - 17°C) : Use SAE-lO whenever avai l able or SAE SW-30 or SAE lOW-40 as al t ernat es .
Below O° F (-17°C): Use SAE 5W-20 or SAE 5W-30.

The engine is equipped with a dry type air cleaner. Make sure t he air cleaner cover includes an air
cleaner seal. Wi thou t t his seal the carburetor may be exposed t o dirt and the air cleaner cover may vi -
brate when engine is runn ing . Every 50 hours r emove element
and
service by tapping element lightly
against flat surface to di s lodge l oose surface dir t--do not cl ean i n any liquid or blowout with com-
pressed air as this will ruin filter m at er i al in the element . Replace (with genuine Kohler replacement
element onl y) af t er each 100 hour s. Service el~nent more f r equently under dusty, dirty conditions .
