CAUTION
Care must be e x e r c i s e d when using a n e l e c -
tronic null detector in which one input termi-
nal is grounded t o avoid ground loops and
circulating currents.

PERFORMANCE TEST
5-12 The following t e s t c a n b e u s e d a s a n incom-
ing inspection c h e c k and appropriate portions of
the t e s t c a n be repeated either t o c h e c k the oper-
ation of the instrument after repairs or for ;eriodic
preventive maintenance t e s t s .
5-1 3 The performance c h e c k i s made using a 115-
volt, 60-Hz (cps), single-phase input power
source.
The performance c h e c k is normally made
a t a c o n s t a n t ambient room temperature. The tem-
perature range specification c a n b e verified by
doing the performance c h e c k (except temperature
stability c h e c k ) a t a controlled temperature of
0% and a t a controlled temperature of 500C.
If
the correct result is not obtained for a particular
check, d o not a d j u s t any controls; proceed t o
troubleshooting.

CONTROLS ACCURACX
5-15 Voltage.
To check t h e accuracy of t h e out-
put voltage, front panel voltmeter, and front panel
voltage controls, proceed a s follows:
a . Connect t h e differential voltmeter, load
r e s i s t o r , and t h e attenuator t o t h e power supply a s .
illustrated in Figure 5-3.
Load r e s i s t a n c e is 500K
ohms, 18 w a t t s .
b . Turn t h e front panel VOLTAGE thumbwheel
controls until t h e front panel voltmeter indicates
exactly 3000Vdc.
c . The differential voltmeter should indicate

Current. To check t h e output current capa-
bility of t h e supply, proceed a s follows:
a . Connect t h e multimeter ( s e t t o t h e lOmA
position) or another milliammeter i n s e r i e s with a
500K, 18W load r e s i s t a n c e , and a t t a c h t h e s e r i e s
combination t o t h e output terminals.
b. Adjust t h e VOLTAGE thumbwheel controls
until t h e front panel voltmeter i n d i c a t e s 3000Vdc.
c . The multimeter should i n d i c a t e 6mA.

LOAD REGULATION
Definition: The change AEOUT in t h e
s t a t i c value of d c output voltage re-
sulting from a change in load r e s i s t -
a n c e from open circuit t o a value
which yields maximum rated output
current (or vice versa).
5-18 To check constant voltage load regulation.
proceed a s follows :
a . Connect differential voltmeter, load re-
s i s t o r and attenuator t o t h e power supply a s illus-
trated i n Figure 5-3.
b. Turn t h e front panel VOLTAGE thumbwheel
controls until t h e front panel voltmeter indicates
exactly 3000 volts.
c.
Read and record voltage indicated on dif-
ferential voltmeter.
d . Disconnect load r e s i s t o r .
e . Reading on differential voltmeter should
not vary from reading recorded i n s t e p
c
by more
t h a n 3mV.
