Diagnostic Aids
The diagnostic aids used to isolate a failing Field Replaceable Unit
(FRU) are:
• Power-On Self-Test (POST).
• Advanced diagnostic tests
,
contained on the reference
diskette.
• Maintenance Analysis
Procedures,
contained in this manual.
This section describes these diagnostic aids for problem solving.
When instructed to
"Power-on
the system", apply power to ali
externally attached devices (such as printers) before applying power
to the display.
When instructed to "Power-off the system", remove power to ali
externally-attached devices before removing power from the display.
Note: To remove ali power to the Service Bay System, disconnect
the 3-wire power cord of the cart/main chassis from the user-supplied
power connector.
Using the Reference Diskette
The reference diskette is a write-protected diskette located in a
plastic envelope in the back of this manual. You can read informa-
tion from the diskette, but you cannot write (record) information onto
it. Make a backup copy of the diskette as soon as possible. Once
the copy is made, put the originai diskette in a safe piace and always
use the backup copy. The reference diskette contains the following
programs:
1.
Backup the Reference Diskette-makes a copy of the originai
reference diskette onto another diskette, but not onto a hard
disk.
To make the backup copy, you need a
blank,
formatted, 2
MB diskette that is not write-protected
.
Always use the backup copy of the reference diskette. This
ensures that the backup copy always contains the current system
configuration information and testing programs.
