The following figure shows the areas on the system board where thermal interface materials are applied.

Set ship mode before servicing

It is recommended to activate ship mode to disable battery power output before removing the computer
lower case.
Step 1.
Disconnect ac power adapter from the computer.
Step 2.
Shut down the computer.
Step 3.
Press and hold Fn + S + V, then press the power button.
Step 4.
Release all the keys.
Step 5.
Press the power button again, the computer will not turn on. The ship mode is activated.
Connect the computer to power after you have finished all service actions, and then press the power button
to turn it on. The computer will exit from ship mode.

Remove the lower case (with battary)

Make sure the computer has been shut down before servicing the computer.
Step 1.
Place the computer upside down on a flat surface.
Step 2.
Remove six screws.
