press the SELECT button or simply wait until the radio switches
back to the playback display.
Configuring the radio using the menu
Your DDR-53BT features a main menu for each of the different
modes. In most cases, these menus contain several items specific
to the mode and some general items that are applied in any mode.
This section will list the general items that can be found in most of
the radio's menus. The items that are specific for certain modes will
be listed in their respective chapters later on in this manual.
To open the menu for a certain mode, select the mode using the
SOURCE or MEDIA button and then press and hold the INFO /
MENU button. The menu can be navigated using the TUNING UP /
DOWN button and items can be selected using the SELECT button.
The menu can be closed by either waiting several seconds without
any input or by pressing the MENU / INFO button again.
In most of the radio's menus the following general items can be
found:
[Backlight]: Select this option to configure the radio's backlight
level from 1 (darkest) to 7 (brightest).
[Touch Pad Set]: Select this option to configure the touchpad's

sensitivity. The available options are [Low], [Normal], [High].
[Loudness]: Select this option to enable or disable the radio's
loudness feature.

[Auto update]: Select this option to configure how the radio's
time and date should be updated. The available options are [From
Any] (either DAB or FM), [From DAB], [From FM], and [No
update].

[SW version]: Select this option to view the radio's DAB, CD and
BT software version.
[Factory reset]: Select this option to reset the radio to the
default factory settings. After confirmation, all user settings will

be erased.
[Software Update]: Select this option to update the radio's
software. In order to update the software, a USB device
containing the software update should be connected to the

USB-B port.

4. Listening to DAB radio

Tuning into DAB stations
To tune into DAB radio stations, follow these steps:
1.
Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
2.
Select the DAB radio mode by repeatedly pressing the SOURCE
button.
3.
If this is the first time the DAB radio mode is being used, the
radio will automatically perform a full scan in order to find all
available DAB radio stations. During the scanning process, as
new stations are detected the station counter will increase and
the stations will be added to the list which is stored in the radio.
The bar graph indicates the progress of the scan.

When scanning is completed, the radio will list all stations that
were found.
5.
Use the TUNING UP / DOWN button to scroll through the list of
stations and press the SELECT button to tune into a station.
NOTE:
Before selecting the DAB radio mode and performing a scan,
make sure the antenna at the back of the radio is fully extended
and the radio's reception is good.
Storing and recalling DAB presets
Your DDR-53BT features 10 presets for the DAB band. A DAB radio
station can be stored as a preset by tuning into it and then pressing
and holding one of the numeric buttons on the remote control.
Presets can be recalled by simply pressing the corresponding
numeric button on the remote control.
The DAB radio menu
The DAB radio menu contains the following items only related to the
DAB radio mode:

[Station list]: Select this option display all DAB radio stations
that were found and tune into one of the stations. If no stations
were previously found, the radio will perform a new full scan.
[Full scan]: Select this option to perform a full scan and store all
DAB radio stations that were found in the station list.
[Manual tune]: Select this option to manually tune into a DAB
channel / frequency.
[DRC]: Dynamic Range Control (also known as DRC) can make
quieter sounds easier to hear when your radio is used in a noisy
environment by reducing the dynamic range of the audio signal.
Select this option to configure the DRC level. The available
options are:
* [DRC high]: DRC is set as sent by broadcaster.
* [DRC low]: DRC level is set to 1 / 2 that sent by broadcaster.
* [DRC off]: DRC is switched off. Broadcast DRC will be
ignored. This is the default setting.
[Station Order]: Select this option to configure the DAB station
order. The available options are [Alphanumeric], [Active] and
[Multiplex].
[Prune Station]: Select this option to delete all unavailable
stations from the station list.
Showing DAB information on the display
When listening to a DAB radio broadcast, repeatedly press the
INFO / MENU button to cycle through the following information on
the radio's display:
Text
Program type
Multiplex name
Today's date and time
Frequency
Bit rate & Audio type
Strength
Signal error
If the broadcast being received is in stereo, then the stereo indicator
will be shown at the top right of the radio's display.

5. Listening to FM radio

Tuning into FM stations
To tune into FM radio stations, follow these steps:
1.
Turn on the radio using the POWER button.
2.
Select the FM radio mode by repeatedly pressing the SOURCE
button.
3.
Press and hold the TUNING UP / DOWN button to automatically
tune into an FM station with a higher or lower frequency
respectively. Your radio will stop scanning when it finds a station
of sufficient strength. The display will show the frequency of the
signal which has been found along with "RDS" if RDS information
is available. If the broadcast being received is in stereo, then the
stereo indicator will be shown at the top right of the radio's display.
4.
Press the TUNING UP / DOWN button to fine-tune the frequency
with steps of 0.05MHz if needed.
5.
Repeat the steps 3 and 4 to tune into other radio stations.
NOTE:
Before selecting the FM radio mode and tuning into stations,
make sure the antenna at the back of the radio is fully extended
and the radio's reception is good.
