Overbucking (Fig . 16a)
Begin on the top side of the log with the bottom
of the saw against the log, exert light pressure
downward. Note that the saw will tend to
pull away from you. Engage the pruning saw
bucking spikes against the log whenever
possible.
Make sure that the log is supported along its
entire length before you make a cut from the
top (overbucking) as shown in Fig. 16b.
For better performance, do not cut
NOTICE
a log with a diameter greater than
5-7/8 in. (15 cm).
When bucking on a slope, always stand on
the uphill side of the log.
To maintain complete control when cutting
through, release the cutting pressure near
the end of the cut without relaxing the grip on
the pruning saw handle. Don't allow the chain
to contact the ground. After completing the
cut, wait for the saw chain to stop before you
move the saw. Always stop the motor before
moving from tree to tree.
