FEX to Leaf Conversion

In FEX to leaf conversion, FEX can either use the existing leaf image which was used before converting to
FEX or copy a new one after configuring management.
• To convert a FEX mode switch to a leaf switch:
Step 1
Use an ACI image, which can be an existing leaf image in bootflash or copy a different ACI image to the FEX bootflash
via command.

Step 2 Connect the new FEX to a Leaf in the topology.

Change an Existing Leaf in the Topology to FEX

In an existing ACI topology, a Leaf switch will be connected to a Spine switch directly.
Step 1 Leaf to FEX conversion can be triggered by running via

The FEX (previously leaf) will have to be re-connected to another Leaf in the topology for it to come up.
Step 3 FEX policies can be configured on the APIC as required.
