SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
TRANSAXLE
MOTION
CONTROL
LEVER
NEUTRAL
ADJUSTMENT
(See Fig. 27)
The motion control lever has been preset at the factory and
adjuslment should not be necessary.
o
Loosen adjuslment bolt in front of the right rear wheel,
and lightly tighten.
o
Slart engine and move ruction control lever until tractor
does not move forward or backward.
Hold ruction conlrol lever in that position and turn engine
off.
o
While holding motion control lever in place, loosen the
adjuslment bolt.
o
Move motion control lever to the neutral (N) (lock gate)
position.
o
Tighten adjustment bolt securely.
NOTE: If additional clearance is needed to get to
adjuslment boll, move mower deck height to the Iowesl
ostrich.
Alter above adjustment is made, if the tractor slill creeps
forward or backward while ruction control lever is in
neutral position, lollow these slops:
o
Loosen the adjuslment bolt.
o
Move the ruction control lever 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the
direction it is trying to creep.
o
Tighten adjustment bolt securely.
o
Slart engine and tesl.
o
If tractor still creeps, repeat above steps until satis-
fied.

Block up axle securely.

Remove axle cover, retaining ring and washersto allow
wheel removal (rear wheel contains a square key - Do
not lose).
o
Repair tire and reassemble.
o
On rear wheels only: align grooves in rear wheel hub
and axie. Insert square key.
o
Replace washers and snap rctaining ring securely in
axle groove.
.
Replace axle cover.
NOTE: To seat tire punctures and prevent flal tires due
to slow leaks, tire sealanl may be purchased from your
local parts dealer. Tire sealant also prevents tire dry rot
and corrosion.

WARNING:
Lead-acid
batteries gen-
erate explosive gases.
Keep sparks,
flame and smoking materials away from
batteries. Always wear eye protection
when around batteries.
TRANSMISSION
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT
Should your transmission
require removal for service or
replacement, it should be purged after reinslallation and
before operaling the tractor. See"PU RGETRANSM ISSION"
in the Operalion section of this manual.
TO ADJUST
STEERING
WHEEL
ALIGNMENT
If steering wheel crossbars are not horizontal (loft to right)
when wheels are positioned slraight lorward, remove steer-
ing wheel and reassemble per inslructions in the Assembly
section of this manual.
FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAM
BER
The front wheel toe-in and camber are nct adjuslable on
your tractor. If damage has occurred to affect the front
wheel toe-in or camber, contact your nearesl authorized
service center/department.

If your batlery is too weak to slart the engine, it should be
recharged. (See "BATTERY" in the MAINTENANCE
sec -
tion of this manual).
If "jumper
cables" are used foremergency
starting,
follow
this procedure:
IMPORTANT: YOUR TRACTOR IS EQUIPPED WITH A 12 VOLT
SYSTEM. THE OTHER VEHICLE MUST ALSO BE A 12 VOLT
SYSTEM. DO NOT USEYOUR TRACTOR BATTERY TO START
OTHER VEHICLES.
TO ATTACH JUMPER CABLES -
o
Connect one end of the RED cable to the POSITIVE
(+) terminal of each baltery(A-B),
taking care nct to
short againsl tractor chassis.
o
Connect one end of the BLACK cable to the NEGATIVE
(-) terminal (C) of fully charged battery.
o
Connect the cther end of the BLACK cable (D) to good
chassis ground, away from fuel tank and baltery.
TO REMOVE CABLES, REVERSE ORDER -
o
BLACK cable firsl from chassis and then from the fully
charged battery.
o
RED cable lasl from both batleries.
