Muting: Reducing the playback
volume instantly
The mute system can be used to instantly reduce the playback
volume without using the VOLUME control. This is convenient
when answering a sudden phone call, etc.
Press the remote control's MUTE button. The MUTING indi-
cator will light up and the playback volume will be instantly re-
duced.
To restore the normal volume level
Press the MUTE button again. The MUTING indicator will go off.
Notes
@ During muting, the volume level is reduced by —20 dB (to
1/10) from the set volume level.
@ The mute system is cancelled when the power is turned off.
Tone adjustment during playback
1 Set the SOURCE DIRECT button to OFF.
2 Use the BASS and TREBLE tone controls as follows:
Adjusting low notes
Use the BASS tone control
To increase the level..... Turn the control toward +10
To decrease the level ... Turn the control toward —10
To defeat the control..... Set to 0
Adjusting high notes
Use the TREBLE tone control
To increase the fevel..... Turn the control toward +10
To decrease the level ... Turn the control toward —10
To defeat the control..... Set to 0
Right and Left channel volume

1 Set the SOURCE DIRECT button to OFF.

To decrease the right channel volume

Protection circuit
This amplifier includes a built-in protection circuit that is acti-
vated to protect the speakers from noise damage when the am-
- plifier's power is turned on.
The protection circuit also functions during playback to protect
the speakers from overloads, and to protect the circuit from
damage. When speakers with less than the rated impedance
are used, the protection circuit will short-circuit the ® and ©
speaker cords.
When the protection circuit is engaged, the output signal will be
cut automatically.

Output signal levels of graphic equalizers and surround pro-
cessors differ from unit to unit. Because of this, the playback
volume levels may increase or decrease suddenly if the posi-
tion of the SOURCE DIRECT button is changed during play-
back.
If you wish to change the setting of the SOURCE DIRECT but-
ton during playback, first turn down the volume with the
VOLUME control.
Should the sound be cut during playback:
@ Turn off the amplifier.
@ Check for and correct the cause.
® Turn the amplifier back on.
