CUT-IN/CUT-OUT Time Adjustment
S
"Cut-In" and "Cut-out" times
The point where a scene starts is called the "cut-in"
point, and the point where it ends, the "cut-out"
point.
Some VCR models take a second or two to actually
start recording after they receive the command
signal. If this happens you could lose the beginning
of each scene. CUT-IN ADJUST prevents this by
sending the command a little early.
CUT-OUT ADJUST prevents the end of the scene
from being cut, by sending the command a little
late.
If you find you have either of these problems with
your VCR, adjust these settings.
Use the menu to adjust the "cut-in" and "cut-out"
points.
How to calculate the best
adjustment for the "cut-in" and
"cut-out" points
Make a recording of a watch or clock with a second
hand. If you can, use a stopwatch which shows
tenths of a second. Use the Editing Function to
edit this. You can then see exactly how many
seconds it takes for the VCR to start to record.
1. Use the camcorder to record a watch or
clock with a second hand.
2. Set the program selector to EDIT and
connect the camcorder to your VCR as
on p. 33.
3. Set the CUT-IN ADJUST and CUT-OUT
ADJUST to 0.0.
• Close the menu when finished.

CUT-OUT ADJUST *•• + 0.8
1. Open the editing menu and point the
arrow at CUT-IN ADJUST.
• Point it at CUT-OUT ADJUST to change the
timing of the "cut-out" point.
2. Adjust the setting.
• CUT-IN ADJUST can be set up to 5 seconds
early. (-5.0)
• CUT-OUT ADJUST can be set up to 5
seconds late. (+5.0)
• This can be set to an accuracy of one-tenth of
a second.
4. Make sure that the SET function at the
bottom of the screen is on.
5. Input a scene which starts when the
second hand reaches 12 and which
finishes when the second hand reaches
12 again.
• Press the FLEXIZONE AE button when the
second hand is exactly on 12.
• If you are going to set CUT-OUT ADJUST,
input another scene of something very
different afterwards. Then you can see how it
cuts from one scene to another.
6. Record the scene to your VCR.
• Use the START function.
7. Watch the scene on your VCR.
• Note the difference between the time the
scene starts or ends and the time you pressed
the FLEXIZONE AE button. For example:
• If the scene starts when the second hand is
two seconds after 12, you know that CUT-IN
ADJUST should be set to -2.0. If it starts three
seconds after, it should be set to -3.0, and so
on.
• If the scene ends at two seconds before 12,
you know that CUT-OUT ADJUST should be
set to +2.0. If it ends three seconds before , it
should be set to +3.0, and so on.

Note:
• It may be best to repeat the calculation with the
watch several times, and take the average
difference.
