Engine
Oil
Checkoil levelbeforeeachoperation.Be sureoil levelis maintained.
1.
Checkthe oil with the enginestoppedand level.
2.
Removethe oil fillercap/dipstickand wipeitclean.
3.
Insertthe oil filler cap/dipstickinto theoil filler neckas far as itwill
go, butdo not screwit in,then removeitto checkthe oil level.
4.
If the oil levelisnear or belowthe lowerlimit mark on the dipstick,
removethe oil fillercap/dipstick,and fill with the recommended oil
to the upperlimit mark.Do not overfill.
5.
Reinstallthe oil fillercap/dipstick.
Change
Engine Oil
Changeengineoil after thefirst monthor five hoursof operation,and
everyfifty hoursor oncea seasonthereafter.
Drainthe engineoil whenthe engineiswarm.Warmoil drainsquickly
and completely.

Turnthe fuel valve(Fig. 11)to the OFF positionto reducethe
possibilityof fuel leakage.
2.
Placea suitablecontainernextto the engineto catchthe usedoil.
3.
Removethe oil fillercap/dipstickand drainthe oil intothe
containerby tippingthe enginetowardthe oil fillerneck. See
Figure14.
Used oil isa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly.
IDo not discardwith householdwaste.Checkwith yourlocalauthori-
_ties or SearsServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recycling facilities.
4.
Withthe engine in a levelposition,fill to the upper limit markon
thedipstick with the recommended oil.
NOTE:Runningtheengine with a lowoil levelcan cause engine
damage.
5.
Reinstallthe oil filler cap/dipsticksecurely.
Clean Engine
Dailyor beforeevery use, cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,and controlsclean.
Keeparea aroundand behindmufflerfreeof any combustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallows air movement a roundengine.
Engineparts shouldbe keptcleanto reducethe risk of overheat-
ingand ignition of accumulated debris.
Do not usewaterto cleanengine parts.Watercouldcontaminate fuel
system.Usea brushor dry cloth.

LUBRICATION
Blade and Drive Control
Lubricatepivotpoints on the bladeand drivecontrolat leastonce
a seasonwith light oil.Thesecontrolsmustoperatefreely in both
directions.See Figure15.
Wheels
Lubricate the wheelsat leastoncea seasonwith light oil (or motoroil).
If wheelsare removed for any reason,lubricatesurfaceof the pivot
arm and inner surfaceof the wheelwith lightoil. See Figure15.

Door/Side
Mulch
Plug
Lubricate the torsion springand pivotpointson the reardischarge
door and side mulchplug periodicallywith lightoil to preventrust.See
Figure15.
Transmission
The transmissionis pre-lubricated and sealedat thefactory and does
not requirelubrication.
