Air quality is important to all of us, and if we choose to use
wood to heat our homes we should do so responsibly. To do
this we need to learn to burn our appliances in the cleanest
way possible. Doing this will allow us to continue using our
wood appliances for many years to come.

at all times. Since there are no user controls to adjust
the burn rate, the easiest method is to learn how many
logs you need at a time for the amount of heat desired.
In addition to the amount of wood and the size of the
logs, take the time to experiment with split and unsplit
logs as split logs will burn faster than unsplit logs.

Seasoned wood contains about 8,000 BTUs per pound.
Hard woods are more dense than soft woods.
Hard woods contain 60% more BTUs than soft woods.
Hard woods require more time to season, burn slower
and are harder to ignite.
Soft woods require less time to dry, burn faster and are
easier to ignite.
